Chimney sweep and service for the log-burner booked yesterday! And mid-Sept was the earliest they could do.

🙂

I had the attic fully insulated in May, more importantly I set up my indoor bike cave.

Nothing much, other than replace a small part on the boiler (gas valve solenoid) as it was buzzing at random points, and change the valve motor for the CH/hot water as it stopped working. Valve motor £25, whole gas valve £30 (but used the solenoid only as not touching the gas side).

Commuter bike is always winterised, but re-greased the headset last night due to all the wet weather.

Getting the roof fixed. Been chasing the roofer since February.  Hoping it will get done this month - we've now got scaffolding up front and rear. So maybe just a few more weeks/months/years?

Got the boiler serviced. Ordered some logs. New tyres for the winter SSCX bike.
The next thing is to order a rowing machine for those days when it’s just too wet and windy to ride or run.

I was treated to 'something for the winter' last week. 😋

Done:

Ordered some Prestone Screenwash.
Stocked up on deicer (trigger bottles, spray cans are useless).
Got a load of wood in for my parent's woodburner.
Ordered a new winter duvet.
New waterproof jacket in the hallway.

To do:

New tyres on the rear of the car.
Put the classic car in winter storage mode (drain fuel, take battery out and put it on axle stands under a cover. Could do it now actually, no MOT!).
Order a new batch of cable ties ready for fitting the MudHuggers to the rear of both bikes.
Get the turbo trainer out.
Reactivate my Zwift subscription.
Order new rear tyre for the trail bike.

Resisting the urge to build up the body fat reserves, have too much of that already.

This weather has put the mind into winter mode prematurely.

Reorganised the garage, cleared clutter to make space for my power rack/weights PLUS a position for indoor training.

Reactivated TrainerRoad.

Should be getting a larger towel radiator installed in the bathroom (at least double BTU of the current one) which I'm hoping will make it a bit more comfortable. Hopefully done in September at same time of boiler service.

Dodgy old gas fire being removed from living room and gas supply capped.

Need to organise someone to make good the resulting fireplace, and I suspect I'll need to stick one of those balloons up the chimney to avoid major heat loss.

Mrs IRC's car needed new tyres on the front. It's an odd size so not much choice. None of the premium brands. Kumho Solo 4 seasons which get OK reviews were only £80 each though so ordered 4 rather than drive the car with tyres that grip on one end and tyres that don't on the other.

Love a Scapa.

I'm also waiting for the roofer to do the roof. Scaffolding been up since first week in July and not had a single day without rain since. At least the cost per day is looking better. I'm planning on getting out on it to do a window surround that looks knackered.

Insulated house sitting watching tv clothing washed, stored and ready to wear. Warsaw pact insulated trousers and fleecy blanket.

Just need to fit the studded tyres to the spare wheels, sort out brake alignment at rotor side for an easy swop over when the ice builds, and im ready for any circumstance.

Not that it snows much these days.

Need new winter boots this year so that's the priority I think!

Fixie needs a wheel true / rebuild as it's got wobble that gives it an annoying flutter at speed.

Considering a lighter fork for the singlespeed.

Considering if I can squeeze another bike in as I don't have a dedicated winter road bike suitable for clubruns, it's either the summer bike with raceblades and skinny tyres, or the fixie. I think something will have to give though, just not sure which bike yet as it'd be the 5th bike with dropbars!

It's July, I'm not that organized yet!

Winter studded tyres on spare wheels were sorted for the commuter when I built some nice new wheels in the Spring, so it's a quick swap if the weather is icy, rather than ride November to March, permanently on studs.

Nope - it was in May. Lasted 3 days. You've had your summer for the year*. Winter won't happen, just more of the 'summer' we currently have, though it may be a tad cooler 🤷‍♂️ (YMMV 😉 )

(* I've had mine too which is moderately annoying given I'm off for 2 weeks after today 🙁 )

Battened, insulated, boarded and plastered my home-office.

Capped the old chimney.

Will order a new chain for the 'saw. Still tons of wood left but more to cut & split.

Need a new motor for the 3-way valve as currently the heating is coming on with the hot water (did I read a thread on here recently about that issue?).

Winter here, so I’m running a dark beer tasting at the local on Saturday. Stunning lineup… if a bit on the boozy side.

One of the Imperial Stouts is from Bentspoke, a Canberra craft brewery that has a lot of bike themed beers.

I got the attic and garage insulated with spray foam, windows and doors replaced (triple glazing in the front) and topped up the firewood.  Hopefully I'll see a reduction in the utility bills for all this effort and cost.
