It's getting nippy so I'm thinking about a winter coat for wear around town and maybe on some walks.
Needs to look nice, be rain and windproof, warm but not TOO warm, lightweight. Essentially I want this https://arcteryx.com/gb/en/shop/mens/magnus-coat but cheaper.
Anybody any ideas?
Arc’teryx is on sportpursuit at the moment.
I always get mine from TK Maxx. I got a nice Craghoppers Expert soft shell from there last year for £30.
Pretty sure there'll be something very similar, much cheaper and in truth, not quite as good in Decathlon.
Is it wrong to like the cool/cold weather? Not the rain etc, but the temperature dropping is quite nice
I have a Howies ventile jacket for this very purpose, it's great. Looks like a normal smartish coat but its sufficiently weatherproof to not need to carry a rain coat. Very windproof, I layer up underneath depending on needs (I get hot easily)
Alpkit have a sale on at the mo. The Filo at £99 is a steal. Not waterproof though.

Yep, I really like the colder months....
Love my Paramo jacket for winter/cold autumn days. Not sure about wearing it in town, but it's brilliant for dog walking/cycle commuting etc.
Arcteryx Koda on SP..
Ooooh!!
M only 🙁
Thanks anyway!
M only
Yep, for some reason most of the Arcteryx stuff on there is M only...
As above, have a general root around SportsPursuit. They tend to have a gigabazillion decent looking winter coats on there from random european manufacturers
It's the size that samples are made in
You either need to eat more or eat less pies

The paramo tora is warm and breathable and waterproof. Cheap for paramo too. Doesn’t look too outdoorsy around town.
Montane minimus hybrid
Mountain equipment triton
Berghaus arran 3in1
I don't really get that Arcteryx one. It's massively expensive and not particularly special.
It's an expensive insulated jacket, but not a particularly special or technical one
Jack Wolfskin Troposphere, can be found for around £120
insulated, waterproof and pit zips if you get too warm. Got it last winter and it’s ace
I don’t really get that Arcteryx one.
There is a price premium for the brand, but their stuff is very nicely made and is normally better made than the competition e.g. more pieces of material used for a more custom fit or better cuff detailing etc. Whether that's worth it, is down to the wearer. Admittedly I buy most of my Arcteryx kit half price on SP these days.
I bought a Patagonia two winters ago—a very lovely jacket and they didn't pluck the feathers from a live bird to make it 🙂 £200 http://eu.patagonia.com/gb/en/shop/mens-down-jackets-vests?start=0&sz=24#tile-3
