I would like suggestions. It's that time of year again and my trusty Caterpillars are past their best. I'm an office drone so i'm not looking for workboots.

I know people swear by Red Wings, and these:

float my boat, but £250 is a lot of money for a pair of boots.

Have a look at Grenson - not cheap but UK made and I'm very pleased with my pair;

William Lennon boots at https://www.rufflander.co.uk/

I think they make the boots punted out by hebtroco (or whatever they’re called) but without hipster tax

My daughter is off to France for the ski-season and her company actually recommend Timberland boots. Her's were about £160 so not hugely expensive. Seem to be decent enough quality.

I'm on my second pair of these North Face Berkeley boots and I'll probably buy a third eventually.

Smart enough for work, as comfy as slippers, totally waterproof and always on sale somewhere.

I'm going through the same process myself. Everyone here wears Blundstone (Australian Boot Company) boots if you like that sort of thing.
https://australianboot.com/

Or (in Canada at least) there's Kodiak, which seems to do work/ snow boots:

Beyond that, Timberland waterproof boots are worth a look. They're not the most stylish boot but not many waterproof boots are...

If you like Red Wings have a look at Chippewa, often compared to Red Wings but cheaper. Look on YouTube for comparisons.

Timberland 6" boots are great, but not the suede ones. Get the leather ones and wax them regularly. Totally waterproof and if you get the ones with smartwool lining they are nice and warm.

Just out of interest, I clicked on the Jeanstore ad that’s showing on my STW feed at the moment, and they do a good range of boots and shoes, like Nike, Vans, DM’s, and these, which I’m particularly taken with, not cheap, but they look well made:

+1 for Dubarry a la Flashy^^^.
As for CountZero and Grenson - if they're the english bench-made, then yes; if they're made in, I think, India - avoid as they're poorly made.

I have wider feet so Red Wings and Timberlands too narrow. More down to earth than some above: Keens (but can look too funky), Brashers and Josef Seibels, have all worked well for me. Though my Cat look a likes from Screwfix fit well, comfy and work a treat and I doubt they were more than 40 notes.

At work we use Steitz safety boots, hard as nails and survive well traipsing up and down the ballast at the side of the track, I use a pair as my dog walking boots in winter and they cope with all winter throws at them.

Get the Redwings. £250 is a lot but they will last for years and can be resoled if needed.

I will second the Brasher Country Traveller, very comfy and hard wearing.
I can’t recommend newer Timberland - soles wear out too quickly, the recycled plastic fibre lining wears through at toe and heal. First pair of six inch boots are still in use in the garden after 14 years, second pair were unwearable after 3-4 years, same with 3rd pair which won’t be replaced with Timberland in next couple of weeks.

Clark’s have some nice looking stuff this year. How much is resoling for red wing? Sometimes when you work things out it’s cheaper to buy moderately expensive bots and replace when they wear out instead of a really expensive pair which get resoled every couple of years. Resoling is the more sustainable option though.

Clarks are my friend

Last pair saw me through two years of constant wear incl the odd summer hikes up mountains

Check out the warm-lined ‘Varick Heal’ if you’re looking for chukka style
