I love Spotify but trying to report this bug has been like bashing my head against a brick wall.
To reproduce on a windows computer:
pick your favourite song with a drum hit at the very beginning for example Footloose by Kenny Loggins. (there can't be silence before the beat)
Now play the track 10 seconds, pause it, then drag the playback marker back to the beginning and hit play.
The first bit of the song has been cut off. If it doesn't happen the first time try again. Ok so what? no one does that anyway.
Now play a song for 10 seconds, pause the song, then hit next.
The first 250-500ms of the next song has been cut off. That means that if you pause a song, leave your computer or do some work then the next song you play will have its start skipped. This also happens when you pause a song halfway through and double-click to play a new song.
As you may have found this is annoying because often this contains the first beat of the track, or first strum of the guitar etc so you begin on the second beat which is a rather disorientating start to the song.
If you could comment if it happens to you I'd be very grateful
Would you be able to try when you get home? I'm struggling to find any friends' PC that this doesn't happen to, although it doesn't seem to bother them.
I can understand it not bothering people who are casually listening as you wouldn't notice the missing few ms.
Does it happen if the tracks are stored locally or only when coming from the streamed service?
What are you using Spotify for that requires such accurate reproduction of the music, surely if it is something that requires such accuracy a local source of the music via a traditional player would be more suitable?
For me it just means that EVERY time I pause Spotify and then play a new song I miss the beginning which eventually over the years has p/$$ed me off enough to do something.
I'm paying £10 a month to play music so I'd expect the basic function of music playback to work.
This isn't how I want to listen to music and I'm sure it's not how artists want their music to be heard.
I've repeatedly message them on Twitter but they say they don't have PCs to check it on and they'll pass it on. Clearly nothing gets addressed on the forum (Others have the problem since at least 2012 but it's ignored. Spotify forum posts.)
I have tried reinstalling Windows and the problem remains. It also occurs on both my laptop and PC. On Windows 8.1 and 7.
The problem occurs on multiple audio cards.
The problem can be reproduced almost every time.
It doesn't matter if gapless playback is on.
It occurs on the new beta.
It occurs with offline tracks so has nothing to do with buffering.
The first 250-500ms of the next song has been cut off
You've reinstalled Windows because of that?
Wow..
Mine does that if you pause - don't pause it and you can do both fine
hahaha well actually it was for something more critical but it still happened after the reinstall. So yea maybe I'm overly mad about this but the combination of every new song after pause starting in the wrong time signature and the apathy of Spotify's support have driven me over the edge.
Have you considered moving to another provider of streamed audio?
tainted love softcell - no issues? (it's from the 80's radio stream so please no jokes!)
not a premium member were just streamed. could it be you internet connection?
I'm on free spotify. Happens to me.
I hate you for putting Kenny Loggins on though 🙁
I knew I hated Spotify. I didn't realise this was the reason though.
You've reinstalled Windows because of that?
This is STW where infinite levels of OCD are practiced on getting component colour matching "just so". Like somouk I would be using a local source if it was that important.
As an aside the most recent STW playlist is a cracking one, thanks chaps. It's been a fabulous afternoon of cycle mags and choons.
Are your playback setting set for crossfade and gapless playback? Not sure if it affect your issue/
edit tab > preferences > playback - adjust and relax?
Thanks for the attempted advice. But as I said above gapless playback doesn't affect it. I've played with every single setting as have many in the Spotify forum with no joy.
there's an stw playlist...? 🙂
Following up on this, I got so peed off with this tiny bug I stalked the internet for the email of the Spotify CTO and sent him a long email about it and about their bug reporting protocol. Bearing in mind he's the CTO of a $6bn company I didn't expect a reply but he did! And today I got a reply from the programming team who will fix it in the next version!
Yaas, British pushiness prevails!
I bet everytime your account hooks up to the Spotify server you are now routed straight to the back of the streaming queue...... 😉
Haha the digital equivalent of spitting in my food
There's an stw playlist...?
Yep there's two -
