I use |Bulguard security on my pc. It works, has worked for years and is reliable enough for me.
Windows 7 though keeps insisting on using windows defender, firewall etc even with bullguard on. When I turn them off it has a hissy fit.
With XP it did it automaticaly on and off for me.
Am I missing something? Other than buying a Mac đŸ™„
I only ever use the Microsoft stuff and it works fine.
You can turn off the notifications in the security centre.
The Windows security features will monitor for the presence of third party firewalls etc, and complain if it doesn't find them. However, for this to work, the software has to announce itself correctly to the monitoring. This used to be a problem forever ago whilst manufacturers caught up, but I'm not aware of any modern package that doesn't play nicely with the MS monitoring.
I'm not familiar with Bulguard, or Bullguard for that matter, but if it's not announcing itself to the OS correctly then I'd suggest it's one of:
1) incompatible with Windows 7
2) crap
3) compromised by malware
Assuming you want to stick with it, which wouldn't be my recommendation but you sound happy enough with it, then I'd suggest that your first port of call would be to see if there's an update available for it.
it announces itself for updates in the windows update part.
Doesn't do it for the firewall which is odd.

There's another option too, which won't cost anything and will work on your current computer - but its probably a wee bit unfashionable

Don't switch to Linux if you like having sex with women. No man who has ever set up Linux as their desktop OS has ever had sex with a woman again, it's like anti-lynx.
Hah loco_pollo you fell for the bait...
That's exactly the sort of ridiculous statement I was expecting...
No wait, it's based on your extensive experience? đŸ™‚
I don't know about Bullguard, but I run Kaspersky Internet Security (virus protection, firewall etc.) and can happily turn off Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. Windows 7 isn't Windows XP though so you really do need a Windows 7 compatible program.
@loco_pollo, have you actually had any? Ever? With linux you have more time for a nookie, but would you be allowed to think dirty? đŸ˜ˆ
@OP, I would suggest linux but most people depend on Windows at work. Apple? Not sure, had years ago and didn't get on with it. BTW If it's the ease of use of Windows you want (you might be mad, you know), you could easily skin linux to look 7-like.
Christ that was easier than I imagined. You've Been Trolled™
Everyone who installs Linux immediately has lots of really dirty sex.
Honestly, you get to that point where it tells you you've succesfully installed linux, eject all removable media and reboot and while it's rebooting the doorbell rings and there's this gorgeous man/woman/goat/fire engine waiting at the door ready to give the beans.
It's the same as going singlespeed, the instant you take those shifters off, someone sexy has their mouth around your private parts and the plaster is falling off the roof.
All I can say is don't install linux at the same time you're singlespeeding your bike, none of us want another Tsunami in Japan.
Thankfully* my experience with Linux isn't the same as yours, samuri.
* I install it several times a week in work - I don't think it would go down well.
