Annoyingly, PC got nabbed by a trojan over the w/e.
Managed to identify and clean out the downloader files etc using AVG Free and Malwarebytes, but AVG still identifies a threat on one of my system32 files - tcpip. AVG says this file is a "white listed" vital system file and can't be healed / deleted
Seems to have disabled my ability to activate the Windows firewall and the Windows restore point utility.
Any alternatives to backing up my files and reinstalling Windows???
you could try a different anti-virus like avast. A boot scan might help, too
you could try running sfc /scannow or similar from the recovery console your windows installer disc. It compares all the Windows files with the originals and restores any which have changed.
