Hi round at elderly relatives house, they have hardwood double glazed windows 20 years old but all the rubber sealing on the frames, not in the glass unit but the draft excluder bit when you open the window, has perished.
What is he best replacement, they have tried B and Q sticky stuff and that has not worked?

Was the original stuff nailed/glued/recessed in a channel? You could do with estimating the width and depth of the gap too.
This place have a selection, but are a bit pricey, once you identify what you want, have a google for a better price, or local supplier.

cheers it is the rubber glue on bit round the top window between the wood frame, where the window opens
they just have a gap and lots of air rushing in
Cut out a little section to get back to bare wood, pop a cube of blu-tak/filler/dough/etc onto the frame and close up. When you open, measure the height of the squishy stuff.

Question: Do the windows open on fancy cantilever hinges? If so they could be worn meaning the window stays parked in a slightly open position i.e. a pencil wide gap between casement and sash. The hinges can be replaced.
