Tried this update when prompted today as I don't have auto updates turned on on my laptop. My mouse icon disappeared half way through set up. It would not allow me to toggle through options using tab or the arrow keys. Finally got to the Microsoft account login through a series of wallops to the keyboard to be told my acc details were incorrect. They were not.
Now trying to restart my computer with the previous version and shatting myself it's not going to work.
Is it just me or what?

Windows 8.x SUCKS!!! 😡 I EFFING HATE IT!!! 😡

No similar complaints for me about XP or 7!

Hating Office Live as well, though not to nearly the same degree...

It has to suck, it's the rules
http://orclev.tumblr.com/post/18555141412/why-windows-8-will-suck

Windows 3.1x (1992) - Good
Windows 95 (1995) - Mixed bag, at the beginning it sucked
Windows 98 (1998) - Good
Windows ME (2000) - Sucked (hard)
Windows XP (2001) - Good
Windows Vista (2006) - Sucked although not as hard as ME
Windows 7 (2009) - Good
Windows 8 (2012?) - ???

^ I agree! I mostly used 3.1, 98, XP, and 7 and was pretty happy with them all.

Does anyone know if I can downgrade my new laptop to 7?

Format c:
Insert Win 7 disc then install, you may have to disable some of the boot protection stuff too.

Windows 8.1 made my mousewheel scroll in the other direction; why?!?! Something like that was just bound to annoy the hell out of everyone until they can work out how to turn it round again, I recall it was a fairly well hidden setting so many people might just have been stuck with it...

Windows 2000 was good but isn't in that list. NT? Windows 98SE was very different from the original 98 too...

People keep making lists like that; they should stick to Star Trek films.

No, I won't be swapping back to DOS 2.1
I suppose it would just be irritating if I said that W8 worked fine and the 8.1 update went fine. A little disconcerting though as I tired to scroll right for all my programmes and nothing happened. I stared at the screen in disbelief for a long time before spotting the down arrow.

In what universe was Windows 98 EVER considered as anything other than an abomination? It was so terrible they had to rename it when they eventually cobbled enough of it together into something approaching workable!

Running 8.1 on my missus' laptop and don't see where all the rage comes from. Sure, I can't run any apps because it turns out netbooks were made with too small a screen but otherwise it seems to run absolutley fine.

You also forgot Windows 2000 which was a great OS (if a bit tempremental with games).

This may help explain:

I really like Windows 8.1
You just need to learn how to use it.

Here's a hint. Press the windows key then just start typing what you want to open/run/search for. The unified search is very powerful and gives settings/programs/apps/files/internet search results together.

Perhaps in the same way you need to learn to read?

Or, you know, he wasn't replying to use but to others criticizing other issues with the OS?

Judging by your original post I reckon most of your problems are related to PICNIC.

Yeah, I don't really care about your problem OP

I used to work in IT support. Problems like yours are the ones I hated most. It wasn't to do with the computer.

I'm so glad I don't do that job any more!

Hey, have you tried turning it on and off again?

There's the issue right there. Computers are far easier to deal with when they aren't turned on...

After I installed classic shell I quite like 8.1, it makes sense for touch laptops too - not that I ever use mine.
The only issue I have is with Acrobat pro installed it won't give me the permission to delete PDF - of which I receive lots for work.

I seem to quite like mine. I'll admit that I don't do anything particularly techy with our computers (and getting my wifi printer to work properly has not been a success!), but it seems to run everything well, and does what we it to do.
