just used the system file checker tool to check for corrupted files and it has found some 🙁 (haven't been able to open pc settings).
have no idea how to fix them though 🙁
any idea how i can fix them?
thanks.
If your hard drive is failing, then I would buy another hard drive, fit it and re-install Windows. If you get an external drive caddy the chances are that you will be able to put the old disk in it and recover some, perhaps all of your data files.
SFC will attempt replace corrupt files from its system cache automagically, if they're inadequate then it'll ask you for the disc. Or at least, it will on Windows 7, dunno about 8 but can't imagine they'd make it worse.
Bear in mind that this isn't "fixing corruption", it's replacing damaged system files. The file structure might still have issues, which chkdsk will (attempt to) fix. On W7 you can right-click the drive, Properties / Tools / Check now and schedule a disk check on reboot.
