Ive upgraded my laptop to windows 7 using a genuine windows 7 home premium disc and key.

Now for some reason it wont do any updates, it just constantly searches for updates ??

Ive done a bit of searching online and tried a few microsoft fixit things but nothing seems to be working??

Any ideas?

Morning,

Had this and some work in the registry keys amending the settings got it working. Check each key and the settings, one might be incorrect.

How long is constantly? Generally it takes a few hours just to find the initial batch of 190 odd updates in my experience.

I left the computer on for about an hour earlier and it just kept scrolling across looking for updates.

cpu usage is at 100% as well?

Only decided to upgrade from xp as I had the disc from my main pc that I had upgraded to 10 ?

Maybe you haven't actually got a licence to put 7 on another machine, as you've used it for your 7/10 machine?

Sometimes it just takes ages.

Reboot it a couple of times to flush any updates that are installing behind the scenes.

Check your clock / calendar is correct, and the time zone.

Run a chkdsk, and sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt.

Try deleting everything in c:\windows\software distribution\download (without WU running) and then trying again.

Install SP1 manually if it's not there already.

Hi Cougar, you probably remember me askignt his last time for windows 10 !!

Anyway....

I ran a sfc /scannow thing and it came back all ok

I deleted everything in the software folder aswell as stopping the bit services and the update service and then restarting them.

The disc installs sp1 as part of the install.

I havent checked the time and date.. will check that later

Im running out of ideas!
