All my wooden window frames need painting , staining or varnishing. They're hardwood frames, brown at the moment which I'm happy to keep just wondered what's generally the easiest longest lasting stuff to out on, stain or varnish or paint?
Any recommendations, is Ronseal stuff ok? Three of them are really awkward to access so want something that will last well on those!

I just used some Zinsser paint on exterior woodwork and I am in love with it. Osmo can go swivel now for all I care.
I've used Sadolin superdec opaque wood stain (white) instead of traditional paints on the outside of the house for some years now. The SW facing aspect gets all the weather and good quality primer/undercoat/gloss would peel within 30 months.
I've just redone the sadolin on two of the SW windows after 6 years and that was more because it was something to do in lockdown than being really in desperate need. V impressed, plus it's water based so goes on really easily, easy to clean up brushes after.
Not sure if they have the right brown in this range for you but I'd recommend the brand at least.
Googling 'Sadolin superdec opaque wood stain' now, our wooden window frames were repainted two years ago and need redoing badly. South facing windows, pointing across a valley that goes to the sea: all the weather!
I don't think exterior gloss paint has ever been the same since they took the lead out of it - just doesn't last as long.
I use stain now on our wooden window frames, easier to top up as you don't need to air gun everything off and sand back etc.
Zinsser all coat water based paint. Can be mixed in any colour. Fantastic stuff.
