What do we think of this guy?

Is anyone doing his method?

Must be dyslexic, I misread that as "Hot Milf Method".

Yes I do the WM Method, have done since July. The breathing and the yoga exercises 50% of the time, the cold showers everyday without fail. I really enjoy the cold showers, with the weather getting cooler the cold water is getting colder and fresher. Fantastic for invigorating the body and mind.

Over the years I've tried all sorts of mindfulness type activities and for me this is by far the best. It's as if, it's so full on and all consuming the that the mind has no chance wander and generate crap thoughts, like you're not doing it right (as can be the case with 'Mindfulness')

I wouldn't be without it, especially with the way the world is today.

The app is a great starting point.

I'm guessing you've seen the Vice video?

Judging by 2 people on my FB feed who have done it/do it, it is a cult and the main rule of the cult is you must talk endlessly about it to everybody and anybody you come across.

Think there is a link to being in cold water and mental health. I remember watching something on TV on it where they took people suffering from depression and got them to ditch their anti-depressant drugs and replace with regular swims in cold water and it seemed to do the trick. Something about endorphins released when you plunge into cold water equivalent to sky diving or something like that. I certainly feel invigorated after a plunge in cold water. Maybe more to do with it than anything else, though Yoga is also proven to help with wellbeing and mental health.

Like most things like this...best to take bits from alot of these things and incorporate into your life rather than jumping feet first into the latest trend.

I've tried cold showers and cold baths. They tend not to cool me down enough, because theres' not enough immersion. I got properly cold snorkelling off Mull a few years back though, and I shed a load of weight very quickly.

Was also going to post a flippant reply due to the poor quality OP 😃
Actually looks quite interesting though so will investigate further.

I'm sure this is true (doesn't mean there isn't something in it though; heard lots of different people talking about the positive effects of ice swimming/bathing/showers etc over the years)

I used to regularly see him rollerblading in just a g-string when I lived in Amsterdam. He was regarded as something of a local nutter back then.

Strange how he’s suddenly found fame.

I try to do the breathing regularly. There’s definitely positives to it. Found it as have been winter swimming and a lot of what he talks about does match the experience I had (before being aware of him).

It does seem to be attracting lots of ‘influencers’ and people who like to go on about it, but don’t let that out you off trying it.

The app is really good, and free. That’s the other thing with it - It’s all available for free. Yes he does appearances and has a book, but it doesn’t seem to come from a place of greed or trying to make money.

I did the breathing one once. Came across the video whilst YouTubing (YouTube is the best thing).

Was amazed I could hold my breath that long. Felt good afterwards too. Should really look into it more.

Article on the BBC website  linked to hibernation, and the fact that chilling people can help protect their brains. Fascinating stuff.

I've been doing it on and off lately. Not done the cold showers yet, but keep meaning to do that also. He does come across like a nutter - but then at the end of the day he is.

I wasn't sure if it was OK to call him a nutter, so I looked the word up in a dictionary.

I was surprised to see that it just had a little photograph of Wim!

Not done the breathing stuff, but have been doing cold showers for 15 years now. Started it as a way to reduce the shock when surfing and white water kayaking, and have just stuck with it. Tried a few cold baths more recently and have found those to be good too. Benefits for me are just feeling more awake/refreshed.

Not seen him before but really enjoyed that Vice doc, so many great quotes.

"I don't think this is a cult, but the thing is Wim is so charismatic,

if he gave me any poison to drink I'd be the first person to drink it."

Cold water plunging (as a way to get exposed to proper cold) has been known to be beneficial for ages.

As well as the proteins it reactivates the brown adipose cells that we have as kids and lose as we get older. These generate heat from fat and keep us skinny.

I'm too soft to do cold water but I do his '40 breaths' before pull-ups. Went from 11 to 14 on my first try.

I used to do regular sauna sessions then into a cryo chamber with temps as low as -130 to lessen the effects of inflammation (for multiple sclerosis), worked a treat in reducing my symptoms but these days my disease has progressed to secondary progressive and my body cant recover as well from the heat/cold so I’ve unfortunately had to stop the treatment.

I tried the breathing but can't be bothered to keep going with it.
I just open water swim year round now.
was 12° this evening so am nicely chilly now. Gets bitey when the temp is around 5 or 6°

I don’t know anything about his breathing methods but I am doing cold showers in the mornings at the moment. I love them!

I'm too soft for the cold showers and open water swimming. I do like a cool shower sometimes, I feel much warmer when I get out.
