Our car keeps freezing up in the cold weather and I know not to use some products (such as WD40) on them as it can damage the rubber. However I have some of this in the garage and it's 100% synthetic - would it be safe to use? (I want to avoid spending money if I can).

I wouldn't. I don't think 100% synthetic is relevant. Have you got any silicone spray around? Anything for car interiors like Armorall?

Silicone spray is what i've been using. Same stuff i use on the fork stanchions. Much cheapness from Halfords.
