Lob some of them in the fresh mushrooms section at your local supermarket and keep an eye on the news.

something else has been nibbling on them (bird or squirrely I reckon) and I've not seen any birds falling out of the sky

I know a bloke that ate some random mushrooms convinced they were hallucinogenic. The state he got into was horrible, he's not really completely recovered either.
And even experts get it wrong, so careful now.

ok so i worded that wrong 😳
but if you are going to eat them, you have to take a pic of the gills and maybe cut one to see what colour it 'blushes'

They're def not a common (wild) variety, or at least one I know, and I certainly wouldn't trust a complete stranger over the Internet to tell me yay or nay!

Edit although jonas advice on id'ing them is a good start

Don't eat them! They're disgusting fuggin' things. They will contaminate anything they come into contact with, horrible things.
(This may or may not be a personal opinion simply based on a dislike).

Don't!

Possibly a milk cap of some sort, but not worth the risk.

MycoKey fungus identifier says Lactarius piperatus = peppery milkcap

"Despite being edible, it is not recommended due to its poor taste, though can be used as seasoning when dried. The fruiting body is a creamy-white mushroom which is funnel-shaped when mature, with exceptionally crowded gills. It bleeds a whitish peppery-tasting milk when cut"

mother in law was a plant specialist and was frequently asked the same question, her advice was always no but if you do make sure to pop one in a pot labelled up to make it easier for the coroner.

that's interesting, I was convinced that they were milk caps but as they've grown they've changed quite a lot.
I expect that they are edible because of where they've grown (in a bed used for growing edible stuff), but I'd never eat them. I'm not really interested in having kidney failure. 🙂

The two mushrooms that will definately kill you are the Destroying Angel and the Deathcap; both look not that dissimilar to supermarket mushrooms. Both are pretty rare (and these are not them) but I did see a clump of the former whilst picking Chanterelles in Speyside last Autumn!
