Repressurised it to just beyond 1 bar, it's been on a bit, and it's up past 2.5 now. Will it explode? The manual is missing.

It will have a blow off valve; go outside and look to see if any water is coming out.

Did you repressurise it with water or air?

Water. It needed filling up. Maybe I need to blow off

I'm not an expert, but we had pressure problems with our boiler, basically the BG man said that if your pressure drops or rises more than about .5 bar from cold then there is some thing wrong with the boiler.

Having said that my parents recently over filled their boiler (well couldnt turn the tap off) and the blow off valve just released the excess pressure.

If your that concerned go to a radiator and bleed it, that will release the pressue, its a slow way to do it but will work.

the over pressurisation valve should bleed off excess pressure

you could bleed off the excess via the radiator bleed screws

That's a relief. Cheers all.

If it's rising by that much, there could well be air in the rads, try bleeding them all first.
No, it won't blow up. There will be a pressure release that will pop off around 3-4 bar depending on the boiler. If it does, you will need to repressurise again or the boiler might not fire up

Expansion vessel is flat

I think Paulo has hit the nail on the head.

We had this on our last boiler. The pressure would vary a lot and it needed topping up every few months. I'm no expert but a combi boiler has a built in expansion vessel to regulate the pressure as it heats the water up.

Once side is connected to the water - the other has air and theres some sort of flexible membrane between them. Once the membrane goes theres no regulation left and the boiler blows off some water so when it cools down it needs topping up.

BG installed an external expansion tank / regulator as part of the annual contract. Looked kinda like a small fire extingusher with connected to the radiator pipe (just one pipe from what I remember).

I did the bleeding first. Then topped up, bled again, topped up. Heating's off now and it's settled back down to 1 bar

It only takes a samll amount of water in a modern system to make the difference. If you drained half a cup out of a radiator you should see a big difference. But like Funky Monkey says bleed them all first and just top up gently.

I was seeing a massive difference. This morning the bloody thing didn't come on at all.
All pressures are fine, but it's reporting an error. Something to do with the air intake. Very frustrating and very cold.
