Looks like I need a new washing machine. It's in the bathroom (blame Kirstie Allsopp) so it's hardwired into the wall. Is it a relatively straightforward job to remove the old cable and wire in the new one (after I've chopped off the plug)?
I've replaced sockets before - this doesn't seem a whole lot more complicated, right?
its a way to die.
how are you going to isolate the power to the wall outlet.
yes
to required standards, don't know
probably some nuances that neither of us know about
what the hell is it doing in the bathroom
legalese... electric shower (for instance) wiring is a notifiable thing, as are any wet room electrics, so I'd assume this must be too, i.e. you do it and void insurance leaving fire risk on you etc etc
There's a switch outside the bathroom to isolate it.
And it's in the bathroom because carrying all your dirty laundry into the room where you cook and eat is disgusting 🙂
Hmmm insurance is a worry if that's the case
I understood its only notifiable if you are adding or modifying?
replacing like for like isn't?
You can wire in an oven to an existing wall plate yourself perfectly legally, this seems generally similar bar the nuance of being within a bathroom which could have some impact. I assume it is correctly zoned etc. for the likelihood of shower splashing etc.
I believe isolator switches tend to be dual pole (but worth isolating everything if you aren't sure) so you can't be zapped if there is a fault elsewhere and the neutral becomes 230v somehow.
