I bought this not really knowing a thing about snowboards.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/snowboard-/323656760781?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=IHbtWj0EwEyF%252FdDdw6sdCXQHg2s%253D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc

How will this be for a 80 kilo 5 foot 6 guy who's never snowboarded?

I'm picking it up tomorrow.

If you do die at least you've only wasted £8.71 on something that'll barely get any use.

It is a bit on the short side for your weight and, as you are a beginner, I assume you won't be doing tricks either so normally a longer board is better for mountains. I am sure you'll have fun trying though. 🙂

It'll all be downhill from here.

Why do people ask for comments on purchases after they've purchased them? I never understood that. If you've bought totally the wrong thing then it's a bit late now.

Having taught a couple of people to board you will spend so much time sitting on yer butt the board dont matter. 😉

Once you are linking turns then look to get something half decent, but bear in mind half decent set up will be north of 500.

Bit short, but will be easier to turn if a little twitchy but on piste it wont be a major problem. You'll want something better next year though.

Is it a bit like buying an Apollo MTB to do a trail centre on, never mind a DH course ?

Can I have your bikes ?

Paint it black and flog it as a rear spoiler to the local yoots with Unos.

you might find a very short board allows you to get off with turning by just throwing your weight around

and then you'll get a longer board...

but why not.  Anything that gets you out has to be good. Buy some filler for the base and something to sharpen the edges.  Decathlon will have it at sensible prices

I'll stick to MTB after breaking my spine on a ROAD BIKE - this snow board/ski stuff looks stupid....

🙂

Buy some wrist guards. Above all else this will be the most important purchase you make. I don't snowboard, or ski, but I spent a lot of time reviewing the background to wrist fractures when I broke mine!

My colleague has just broken hers snowboarding, all her family now have guards.

Equally as important as wrist guards, get some impact shorts. Your coccyx will sure appreciate them.

You’ll be reet! Just drink shitloads at lunchtime. What’s the worst that can happen?

I've been snowboarding for nearly 20 years, never worn wrist guards and never broken a wrist. Tuck and roll!!

My wife broke her wrist whilst wearing wrist guards.

Impact shorts are good and so is s helmet.

The plural of anecdote is not data 😉 . The cadaver studies on wrist impacts were impressive. Here's a randmized controlled trial. There's a big effect.

Looks better than my Fischer price special that I learnt on, sure it'll get you up and riding.

But if you stick with it you'll want something longer pretty quickly I'd imagine.

I've never broken a wrist either, but I'd imagine it's mostly down to luck.

Helmet is a must, your head will thank you for it the first time you catch your back edge.

Post above didnt come the way I meant it to really. Didnt mean to sound 'i've not done it so you do need to....'

I know the science says to wear them, but from my experience/crashes I think a helmet is more important...

What I would say is my wife changed from the wrist protectors with the metal bit in the palm to the more flexible ones* that have protection on both sides of the hand and she said they were waaaay more comfortable and seemed to not force injury in certain locations. More dissapation of forces rather than moving the force to another area. Which is what seemed to happen with the metal palmed ones she had.

Not saying they caused her break, it may have been  worse had she not been wearing them, but her break happened at exactly the top of the metal bit just above the wrist. So bottom of the arm really.

Plus drag lift are a lot easier to hold with the flexible ones she says.

Decathlon do some now as well.

The board will be fine. Its an old beginner standard board so it'll be fairly soft and forgiving, the bindings will strap your feet to the deck, the base will slide over the snow (provided its got some wax left in it).
Get used to falling over and having a bruised ass 😉
