You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Sorta amazed this hasn't become a thread yet, but maybe thats due to the general listening habits of the Singletrack world. But Wiley has been kicked off twitter for life, banned from FB and IG and the way hes going on looks like hes gonna get perma bans on all social media platforms.
However, one thing I think that needs discussing is has race played a part in the swift action to see him kicked off these platforms? Kate Hopkins spread hate for like 10 years on twitter and that edl moron (refuse to say his name) still gets to spread his anti muslim hate gets away with it. And just for the record I do not condone anything Wiley said its clearly antisemetic and growing up in a semi polish (mothers family side) household I find it extremely offensive.
Bit of background if you need it
I love Wiley's music but my god he is a complete todger.
He deserved to get booted, but like you say, it's very odd that some people having been saying similar (or worse) stuff for years, with bigger followings, and it doesn't seem to bother Twitter so much :/
I’m going to have to google who Wiley is.
Perhaps because it feels a bit too sad and stupidly self destructive, as well as very offensive and wrong?
I thought this might show on the Corbyn thread (deleting a past supportive tweet which was fair enough really).
"Alleged"? It was pretty clear it was anti-semitic wasn't it?
He's conflated white privilege with Jewish people and has singled them out, what he's said is stereotyping and antisemitic. However, he has faced unbalanced retribution for his beliefs because he is black. It's a very sensitive topic, especially considering what is happening to the Palestinians. As the Keir Starmer demonstrated by denouncing BLMUK for taking a position against the state of Israel and he's ignoring what is happening to Dawn Butler and Diane Abbot, whilst reprimanding mps for antisemitism. Jewish people don't benefit because of culture or ethnicity, whiteness is the privilege.
It shows that there is a disparity between black and white people and the bigotry which is tolerated by our society. There is racism in the music industry, I saw Chuck D do a spoken word gig about it 20yrs ago (I even went for a pint with him after, but that's another story). It extends from the historic systemic racism in our society and it's evident that white people have been the benefitors, but it's wrong to to blame Jewish people for this as they are also a persecuted group of people.
The others played the game, kept their content on the line, or border line over it, but with enough to keep away from repercussions.
He did not, so was banned.
Its basically down to when does free speech cross into hate speech.
I think Twitter is cracking down more on hate speech from public figures generally than in the past also.
I'm not sure if his race comes into it, I guess it probably does to an extent.
Peddlers of hate (a club which Wiley can certainly count himself a member now) have little right to victimhood.
He was very anti-Semitic on various platforms, some of whom responded fairly slowly, given the nature of said posts. Who gives a hoot what colour his skin is, he's a nasty racist, he was banned for it. Case closed.
It's easy to see racism everywhere, but in this case the racism all belongs to Wiley.
(about wiley, difft incident. Contains many swears)
Nothing 'alleged' about his emissions being anti-semitic.
They were.
*If* he was a responsible adult he would have been careful/considered.
