The kids are currently enjoying Wii Sports on a 12 year old console at granny's.

I let them play on my ps4,  but Mrs pook is saying this is better. What should we get them for Christmas?

Switch is great, but games are pricey!

If it matters to you Switch is due to get a hardware update soon so maybe a drop in price for current stock. Especially with the next gen consoles out later this year.

I think a lot of fun could be had from an old Wii and a huge bundle of games for a casual gamer not worried about the latest releases.

We recently got a switch and it is great. The games are pricey but you can pick up plenty cheaper on Facebook marketplace.

My mate gave us his old wii at the start of lock down and my 7 year old has loved it , mario cart especially with the steering wheels . Some of his friends have switches but we have tried to hold off on consoles for a bit but knowing we were going to be at the house a fair bit made me change my mind . He quite likes telling his mates were old school gamers .

The Switch is a great bit of kit. Lots of fun local co-op games. Mario Kart, Yoshi’s Crafted World, Luigi’s Mansion plus a load of quality indie games on the Switch store. When my sons in bed I’ll play Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, Ape Out, Zelda and Dead Cells.

Depends how much you want to play Wii Sports... the Switch equivalent is the Olympics thing which the kids enjoy, but I can tell it's not as much fun as tennis was on the Wii.

The good news is that you can get a Wii and a pile of games for £50 easily!

Wii U! The best of both worlds.

Yep, Wii U. The hardware and games are cheap but it also plays all the Wii stuff and uses the same Wiimotes.

Loads of the big Switch titles (Zelda:BOTW, Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Brothers, Bayonetta, etc) are just ports of Wii U games - so you get to play some of the most popular current games and a huge back catalogue of older stuff. If they like the physical Wii sports kind of stuff there’s more of that for the original Wii than later generations.

If they get on with it, pick up a Switch when it gets revised next.

As above, if you dont need it to be portable then grab a Wii U, look to get one with some of the big games bundled in for around £100 - 120. Zelda BotW, mario kart 8, mario 3d etc.

Plays all the old wii games which can be snapped up for peanuts, then wait for the switch price drop

How old are the kids?

As others have said, the Wii U is probably the best option. The might well have enjoyed an afternoon of Wii Sports at granny's but I'd wager they'd quickly be bored of an old Wii. I had one on long-term loan a few years back, in the couple of years it sat here I probably got a week's use out of it.

What should we get them for Christmas?

What do they want for Christmas?

I'd go with a Switch, there's also still no date for the upgraded version other than "2021" so it's not really worth waiting on IMO

I am very much enjoying the Gameboy Advance. Cheap to buy and totally upgradable with a little soldering. What's not to love.
