I have just arived back after this years worst in history Mayhem due to the very bad weather.
Still sort of enjoyed it .
But.
I can not understand when a company as large as Wiggle as the main sponsor this year hade such a small choice of spares.
Alot of us move to single speed when the weather gets bad.
Wiggle had no spare rear sprockets, no chainrings and a very small amount of mud tyres for 29nrs.
Come on Wiggle if you are the sponsor for next year get your act together. You missed out on a captive client base
that needed more suport.
I heard that there were smaller suppliers who did not attend because Wiggle were there. I managed to get a smaller front chainring from
Star Componants instead.
They could have made up for Wiggle

I got back last night and rode it as part of a team of 4. My only bike option was my Intense Tracer 160 so not did I only look stupid I found it extremely hard going!

Whilst I enjoyed little if any of the trail (climbing grass banks is not my idea of fun), finishing and being in a part of a great team meant that I won't walk away with only bad memories. The team made it.

Got me thinking though; for an event as large as this, they should probably take some pointers from the Gorrick XC races in the South. I know the weather was exceptionally bad but maybe move the event and add some good technical singletrack. Even in the dry I don't think it'd have been that much fun. Ride a Torq 12 and you have sections that'd you'd look forward to. Apart from the last descent I can't think of any other parts I enjoyed. Overbiked though, so unfair comment?!

Apparently the mud was Wiggle's fault too...

If you fancy a drier course try Are You Tough Enough Next month, or Torq 12:12 - neither can be that bad and I don't think there are any grass banks!

anyone know if SRAM were replacing mechs FOC, like shimano were?

my mech bust off on the last lap, thought it was hanger, walked 5 miles, chucked bike in car, just started cleaning it and the mech is twisted as well,

Sounds a bit unreasonable to expect them to have spares to cater for people switching their bikes to SS on the day, surely if you had thought that might be required you'd take you own?

I agree. It was shambles that other trade exhibitors were not allowed to sell because Wiggle were the sponsor.

With the weather being what it was so many people were desperate to buy tyres and spare parts. We were told by Shimano that Wiggle were the only stall selling ... But what did they have NOTHING! A handful of tubes and odds and ends. Previous years were much better from that point of view!

I'd also like to know why there was no official communication from Mayhem on the Friday regarding the weather. I mean, no tweets or Facebook updates about whether or not it was going ahead or the cr parking situation.

Yes we were going to bring our shop (Slam69) but could'nt. Not good. You would think that the guys would have this event sorted by now with bike washes, more info, they have been at it for a couple of years.... haha.
😉

It never occurred to me that they would cancel the event......
Just as well as I traveled 400 miles to do it (as I have for the last 10)
Eastnor is a mire in the wet but each year I go back for more.

The lack of stuff at wiggle was a surprise, they could have made much of a captive market.

Jet washes, simple dritworker/nomad job done.

Gotta laugh at the 'add some singletrack' comments. Do you really think it was there and they just didn't include it?

There are only about three or four venues in the country that meet all the criteria for an event like this: central location, no PROWs, decent access and co-operative landowners. Which is why we keep seeing the same places being used. And why the courses are always bad in the wet.

Newnham is probably the best riding for any of these types of course but it's too far from the North to host national events.

Did they ever get that huge truck with the big screen on it out?

Last I saw there were two tractors in front and one behind, failing to make anything happen!

The funniest sight for me of the weekend was the screen truck getting stuck on the way into the field and someone thinking a Vitara would pull it out 😆

This is nothing new - other exhibitors have pulled out of the event in the past (& are unlikely to return AFAIK) due to the way things like this are handled.

Does anyone remember who was selling Candy SLs for £10?... Finally got round to opening the box and found just 1 pedal inside!
