Good luck using all of that
15 upload ? Mleh.
Still at least your dwarf porn will download quickly.
You don't actually mean wifi do you...
*sorry, bugbare of mine.
Didn't want the 200Mbps service?
Be happy until they raise the price three times in a year!
They are the only fiber supplier in our area, and i think they know it #monopoly
Didn't want the 200Mbps service?
Just did a speedtest.net on ours 210Mbps 🙂
Upload's a bit meh, though.
We went for the 100 so can't complain.

2.5 down and 0.9 up, here.... 😥
We share 80mb between about 10 healthy down loaders in the office and 20 others Gosforth it...

People misspelling 'bear' is a bugbear of mine.
Doh.
😳
I read the title as "WIFE willy waving" 😯
0.97 download and 0.45 upload. The joy of living on the edge of the country I guess.
Do I win the prize for the slowest?
Edit: My phone is much faster at 30.55 download and 15.45 upload, but phones are too small to look at for long and so fiddly to type on when you're used to using all your fingers.
Good to see Virgin doing their bit to get superfast broadband out to everyone...unlikely to see them venturing out from the suburbs and into the sticks though, right?!
Not just you, Furious! 😆
Anyone remember that great thread when the guy was struggling to get his [s]wifi[/s] wife working properly?
Anybody on this thread know about the technical details of broadband? Still happy on old fashioned 16 mbps here, but the last couple of weeks it's got very laggy for gaming (I've not checked the speed specifically, but it still seems fine when downloading, er, educational pics and videos). What's wrong?
Humph...I'd be perfectly happy wi your lowest speed 🙁

Spooky_b39 - I live out in the sticks and have had Virgin for about 12 years. My parents in the same village have had it for about 20 years (NTL). We got upgraded to fibre about 2-3 years ago I think.
Those of you reaching speeds of 100-200mbps with Virgin, are you using the Virgin Superhub for wifi? Or are you using the Superhub as a modem only and have a router for wifi? Our Superhub seems to be pretty poor, we fluctuate between 10mbps and 45mbps even though we have the 100mbps service.
Just had a look and it seems we have access to the 300mb service (Vivid 300) if I wanted to pay for it. Can't see any need for it for us though.
Aracer are you hard wired in to the router or using WiFi? Had to access my router settings and change the wifi channel recently and it made a big improvement from the auto channel.
Can't beat Lady Gresley. 2.5 & 0.44 here in rural Norfolk 😀
3 years old and still possibly the best thread ever on STW.
In the sticks - it used to vary between OK and V.V slow - slight annoyance with buffering films etc but effectively stopped home working which is a big deal for us (wifes office is >2 hrs away and she works from home 2 days a week).
Now since fibre broadband arrived in the village it's 65Mbps on wifi depending on location and device and 102Mbps using LAN (or carrier pigeon speed in the garden)
I can't see the point in anything over 10-15Mbps right now - the futureproofing is useful though. Using the same line there's a 1000Mbps option if you're willing to pay GBP74 a month.
wifi wrightyson - it's games on my phone (so I've been switching to 3G for multiplayer). Good call on checking the channel - I had manually selected (it's what I normally do), but it seems to have reverted to the same channel as several of the neighbours 🙄 Not that I actually had any problems half an hour ago when still on the same channel as the neighbours.
...I've also run speedtest, and whilst I'm getting a more than acceptable 16.8Mbps the ping is 63ms, which is kind of rubbish.
We were getting just under 100Mbps on the beach in Portugal a few weeks ago.
And that was on 4G !
And best of all, on my tariff, it was free 🙂
On Virgin 200 here - we use in superhub mode rather than modem mode.
Run 3 different networks (legacy 2g, private 5g and a guest 5g)
Just had to fiddle around a bit - but getting 170 dn/ 10 up on the laptop.
Wired is usually the full 200.

have Virgin laid any new cable since they bought out NTL?

them were the days.....
This thread inspired me to check it out again. Wired up to the Superhub (1) and I was getting 106mb on Vivid 100, wifi on the iPad 33mb and 27mb wifi on the laptop. Was thinking of just buying a router and putting the thing on modem mode. But thought I'd give Virgin a call to see what they could do. After they checked a few things out they gave some suggestions of what it could be, but then just said "we could send you out the Superhub 3." Bit of luck that'll improve things.
I don't get the willy waving thing with broadband.
So you are fortunate with your location, pay more money & get faster broadband. Whoopdy do.
What do you do with all those 100s of megabits per second, or whatever they are.....?
Our download speed is around 2.5 & god knows what our upload is. It can be a bit slow, but it's not bad.
I can imagine that with 20Mb/s it would be amazing & never cause a grumble, so I can't see what 100Mb+ brings to the party...
It's like saying 'our mains water supply can deliver 200 litres/min' when your shower can only use 10 litres/min......
Perhaps I'm a luddite....
I got quite excited to find out there is fibre into the village - but unfortunately it's then copper wire for quite a long way to our house, so wouldn't actually be any improvement!!

I'm paying less than I was with BT (well, my shop is paying for it) , our wireless printer now connects straight away and I even downloaded a whole radio show to listen to while Jeremy vine is on.
What's not to like?
We are in Suburban Surrey and we were getting the fastest speed BT could provide.

Yeah, sorry. My post wasn't supposed to be aimed at you....although reading it back, I didn't word it very well.
It just seems a social thing now to post broadband speeds, as if it's all a competition....Facebook was awash with it when 4G came out with people wanting to show that they had upgraded to 4G & oooh look, I'm getting 75Mbs on my phone, so I can burn through my 500Mb data limit in about 6 seconds......
While it's nice to have a fast connection, once you hit a certain speed anything above that must just be useless headroom....? Maybe?! 😀
Trickydisco, have the students finished downloading the internet yet? Which campus are you on? Sandwich Jr did his nursing course there.
