One of my daughters is a studwnt in cardiff. Her room in the house has no wifi signal.
This wasnt a problem as she used to use a tiny study room, but the lockdown means this room has been given to a student who cant go home as she has immuno compromised parent.
So she cant skype or work anywhere private. This is causing great upset.
Their ISP is Virgin. What device can i buy to get wifi to her room? I dont mean a booster so she can put her laptop on a LAN, but proper wifi so she can get her work done. I cant physically help as im 200 miles away and she is stressed as a student Dr on the health taskforce.
Any links or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

What's the difference?

Long CAT5 cable from the router; bother Virgin that she doesn't have Wi-Fi in her room; powerline adapters; Mash network; all depending on house / distance / wiring / budget.

Powerline adaptors are OK if you never move around the building (as each one is a separate network requiring you to disconnect/reconnect), but a small mesh network works better. Sure I've seen them for ~£60 before

Our wifi isn't great and has been an issue with us both WFH - saw Tenda Nova MW3 Mesh thingies recomended on here, took a punt at £70 and it has been brilliant, before we struggled to stream Netflix/Prime to the PS4 in the living room, now I can play Elite, Mrs Pondo can stream Grey's Anatomy on a laptop, and we can both use our phones to browse all at the same time. Not intuitive to set the first one up, but not a nightmare either - once the first one's done, the other two are super-easy. Recommended.

Using a Netgear Orbi in our house now.  Just the smaller 2 unit model (RBK20) and that has made a huge difference to wifi in our house.

If everything in you house is on wifi then that will work perfectly.  Just plug one unit into the virgin router, stick the other one somewhere near the other room but not too far away.  Follow the setup instructions

If you have some devices that you need cabled and that you need to 'see' from your computers e.g. older network printers, then it gets messy as you need to set up the Orbi as an access point rather than a router and in that case you might be better with something else.  It works well and is easy to do but maybe not remotely.  If everything is on Wifi then you just set it up and create a new wireless network so you don't need to worry about how to switch the old one off

I'm not looking for a range extender as I've never found signal strength an issue at home but I think I've got too many things on wi-fi and it's slowing things down.

We've got a Virgin Hub 3 and I realise I've been adding things to it which seems to be killing it.

Wi-Fi wise we've got:
2 phones
2 tablets
Laptop
Printer
Chromecast
Chromecast Audio
Ring Doorbell
Ring Chime

Ethernet we've got a Yamaha MisicCast amp and a Tivo box, via a Netgear powerline link.

I don't think we need a Mesh system. I know I can switch the Hub to Modem only so my choices are:

TP-Link Archer C7 for £84 delivered from Argos (can get that delivered today!)
Netgear Orbi £135
Tenda Nova MW3 - £60 from Amazon, delivery 1 week

Anything stopping me going for the simple option of the TP-Link?
