You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Planning permission has been sought to put a 4 storey high 5G mast down the road from me.
There have been petitions.
There have been leaflets.
There have been door to door campaigns.
There has been lots of bad science quoted on the "school mums" whatsapp.
When you cut through all the bullshit, basically they are worried about their house prices falling or more to the point not going up as much as they hoped.
Seeing as the vast majority of people on that street have been in those houses for 10s of years, I don't have a huge amount of sympathy that their profit on their house when they finally sell will be 190k rather than 230k or something...
I hope they build it and paint it pink so it looks like a massive dildo.
Hi @convert, not aimed at you, but the post above mine, apologies for any confusion.
When my daughter suffered an avulsion fracture snowboarding in France the docteur who saw her prescribed homeopathic medication
What so you call homepathic medicine that actually works?
Medicine.
There has been lots of bad science quoted on the “school mums” whatsapp.
ha, that's happening right near me as well, only one of the school mums who is also the school secretary type thing decided to send out an official mail asking for people to reject it for spurious reasons - it got withdrawn by some grown ups later on.
Was a similar thing a few months back about the adjoining secondary school asking parents to make a representation in favour of something... eughh.
They don’t, they just joke about you behind your back.
Sometimes, other times there might be swearing and wishing physical harm on the way home!
No venting on the internet because that wouldn't be professional.
Most of our customers are very lovely people, the oddballs can be fun. Others can take the shine off a lovely day and make it cloud over. (Cycle commuting is where I work it all out to arrive home with a sense of calm).
I took Piknmix’s advice above (I am now looking at their username in a different context! A lock picker?), fashioned a thin ‘feeler’ out of an old sprite can from the recycling bin and……am now ready for the life of a master criminal! So easy. Scarily easy.
Yeah, I have an actual posh tool for this but any thin bit of metal will work. I can drop these things in about 5-10 seconds, or a few minutes just by feel if I don't have the prop. They're about as secure as hiding it in a sandwich.
I’d a friend who does internet security bring one of his receivers to the house a few moons back. Set it up in my livingroom to scan for other peoples wireless signals and found about 20.
I have a Pwnagotchi. It's like a Tamagotchi except it feeds on insecure wireless networks.
Thread resurrection.
The brief was to remove all wifi products from the house before they arrived as they make his son seriously ill in minutes. And we had to verify that we did not have a smart meter before he booked
I have a cousin who is now pretty much ruled by this unfortunately.
He is on appearance, really quite ill with this 'obsession' being at the core of everything.
The house where he lives is a terrace in a town and next door have had a smart meter fitted, and he insists that his symptoms worsened at that time (he didn't know at the time they'd had one fitted, but claims to match a change in symptoms around the same time)
He has an awful lot of health issues unfortunately, many of which I believe to have a psychological element, many of which are clearly physical.
However, this obsession now with Wi-Fi and the smart meter has taken over everything. It's not his house where he is but he's gotten into such a state about the house(where he's now been for several years) that my Aunt and Uncle are considering moving to try to lessen the issue for him.
My view is, that because his life has essentially stopped now for several years with various health issues and a withdrawal from any semblance of a 'normal' life, that he has built up a huge amount of negative association with the house. He says that he feels better as soon as he leaves the house, the headaches subside etc. I think that there may be something in it, but also that all of us tend to feel better as soon as we get away from somewhere we've grown to hate.
It's kind of like leaving work at the end of the day from a job you hate. You feel elevated as soon as you walk out of the door.
He insists that he can feel a physical change though, in terms of headaches and pain easing.
It's really causing a big rift in the family to be honest and most of us don't know what to do to tackle it.
I think he needs to be under the care of a psychologist personally to work through his issues with everything, but he pretty much won't do anything we suggest and is seemingly only interested in 'natural' approaches.
We're all worried as he's often talked of harming himself as he can't go on with dealing with the constant pain from emf sensitivity.
I know there are a lot of people on here who are completely dismissive of this as a thing and my cousin for example is very aware that most people don't understand or believe it, but has anyone had experience of dealing with this?
Disproving it seems just as difficult as proving it. (My cousin says they have lots of scientific papers supporting it) though really you can find 'evidence' of whatever you want on the internet it seems.
EMF waves from man made devices interfere with the natural EMF emitted by trees
Unbelievable.
(Apologies if this has been done already)

Over the last few years of degree and full time job I've been getting headaches and pain/tightness across shoulders and neck and a feeling of pressure across my nose that felt alot like a really bad cold.
Every step I took away from the computer it eased. It's heehaw to do with the magic box of flashy lights.
Unbelievable.

It's ok, it's not into the hundreds quite yet 😉

Hmmm, unfortunately, I can sympathise due to someone I know. 😐

What's unnatural about a psychologist?
What’s unnatural about a psychologist?
Having known some where to start.....
Disproving it seems just as difficult as proving it
It depends on the exact claims being made but it often can be eg if someone says they can feel the wifi routers deathrays then you can do a experiment where someone else turns it on and off over an hour or so whilst you check how they are feeling(need the third party so you dont give things away subconsciously)
Pretty hard to do for the entire house though and for a smart metre although during the day I guess you could turn the power of at the mains which would probably disable it. Would need careful design to make sure there is nothing else to give the game away but in theory possible.

Not really. If something really exists, you can probably prove its existence, but importantly, the burden of proof is on the person that claims the thing exists. It's not on the rest of us to disprove every crackpot theory.
It might also be worth clarifying that there isn't any other condition that could be causing this. Sick building syndrome is a thing. Spores related to damp / mould and / or carbon monoxide.

These sorts of things don't work because the person is so invested in their story that they can't see it disproved. There will always be a reason why your methodology is inadequate. Their story is more important to them and overrides any cognitive @dissonance 😛
What’s unnatural about a psychologist?
Sorry, yes I meant more in terms of not going down a mainstream doctor/medication/therapy route that he prefers to self-diagnose, which can obviously lead to obsession with whatever matches or vaguely matches your symptoms.
I think he has a general mistrust of mainstream medicine, which of course is something usually 'touted' by practitioners of alternatives.
How does he feel about mobile phones?
Switches them off for 99% of the day apparently. Will very briefly turn it on to check now and again.
