2004 plate 1.9 TDI Avant with 180k on the clock so it has done really well. The 1.9 is a great engine but now needs a new cambelt AND unfortunately had developed what seems a terminal fault on the ECU of the auto (CVT ugh!) gearbox. So not really worth a repair IMO.
Always fancied a Quattro - A4 estate so still car like - anyone selling one out there - or real life experiences would be good. Wrong time of year tho to be buying a x4...... And perhaps the manual is safer too....
We had an a6 2.7tdi quattro with an auto box. 120k miles from new, pretty much zero issues with it. Was a bit heavy on brake pads and dealer service was poor but had a very good independent. Quattro is excellent, very sure footed in wet and excellent in snow and ice even with normal tyres. We had tiptronic box which was very good, no issues with it. A6 is a bit of a beast external size wise, not so good for a tight multi-story car park.
Not exactly what you're after but thought I'd put it out there as I've been thinking of selling...
A3 Quattro S-Line 2 litre petrol. 75k ish miles
180k isn't really well. 300k would be approaching alright 😉
Hi thanks for the responses. An A3 is a bit smaller than i would like & I think I will stick with diesel. Yes Jambalaya - I've had 2 A6s 2.5 TDis (2008 & 2003) & they were great cars - great v6s, very stable, comfortable & capable of good speeds all day. 1st got 220k on the clock before I sold it, second had to have a gearbox rebuild (CVT ugh!) at 100k that cost £2k. I believe the Quattros - of the same age had Tiptronic boxes - so not the same problems.
I crashed the A6 a while back - silly low speed crash - but enough to write it off and I have a VW T5 camper now - again with the VAG 1.9 TDI lump.
had a A6 2.5tdi quattro sport which was great. drove really well and used to eat the motorway miles for breakfast. the auto box was tiptronic too which was good, but like Jambalaya i also found it to be heavy on the brakes (brake feedback wasnt good either IMO) and main dealer service wasnt the best.
never had any major mechanical issues with it though apart from a replacement gear shift ratio sensor and a new set of headlights
it was given to me by my brother and had 90k on the clock, when i gave it back to him a few years later it wad 150k on and was still going strong. it finally died in a crash with about 250k on the clock.
a friend is selling his 07 A4 2.0tdi s-line at the moment. auto, 89k, full fsh etc. not sure if its quattro though
I had an 07 A4 Quattro TFSI, really really liked it but it had a gearbox (manual) problem and cost over £3000 to fix from an independent and was never quite right after that.
Not sure if that has scared me off quattro for life or not... As above tho performance in slippery conditions was phenomenal, much better than I anticipated.
My A3 Sportback 2.0 170 DSG is currently for sale.
70k'ish miles, diesel
