Hi all,
I used to have one of these which I wore when cycling under harsh sun. Sadly, I've lost it.
Many hats flat around in the wind and are therefore unstable for cycling.
Can someone recommend a wide-brimmed hat that doesn't flap?

Military (style) boonie hat but with copper wire fed into the brim seam. Works a treat.
The US issue ones are quite good as they have a functional brim width that isn't too excessive.
You can get that style in a multitude of colours.

I have the same issue. Baseball caps don’t flap, but don’t keep the sun off my ears. My Tilley hats flap. I do have a Barbour hat which doesn’t flap. It’s a little bit like a smaller Stetson. It’s a great hat, but totally un-packable compared to the Tilleys. And hot, compared to the lighter hats.
Edit: I didn’t read your post in detail. Surely a bike helmet has a peak which keeps the sun off?
A regular bucket hat would do, a lot of archers wear them, I’ve got one and it’s just right, enough brim to shade my eyes and the back of my neck, and the brim is pretty stiff and doesn’t flap around. I usually go along to the club on Saturday morning, when the sun is already fairly high, and Tuesday and Thursday evening, when the sun is shining directly into my eyes, the brim is exactly the right width to shade my eyes and I can still see the target.
I’ve also got an Australian military camo one, they call them giggle hats, the reason why completely escapes me, it’s got a slightly wider brim but it’s a softer material and it will flap around a bit in the wind - I reckon a bucket hat would be your best bet.
Not going to win many style points, but these are a thing.

If those brims were too rigid you'd struggle to keep the bike on the ground

I got my mate (pale, ginger, had lots of lesions cut off) a Da Brim. It's excellent. We did a 50 mile road/gravel ride and it stayed put the whole way and he didn't get burnt.
The yellow one, to match his S-Works helmet.
Needs numerous corks on strings around brim.
Hawkins if you want cricket style floppy hat that isn't floppy. The brim has a plastic disc inside it that allows handwashing without shape loss, and also keeps it fairly rigid. Buy one size too small for fast descending.
Different beast to other cheaper brands but still inexpensive enough if you lose it.

Tilly (as someone suggest earlier) have a lifetime warranty, up to and including "I lost it." I love mine.
What is the purpose of the wide brim? To keep the sun off your face/neck?
