Hopefully an it wizard will help me here. I have a virgin router on the ground floor but our main desktop pc is in the attic office. I only have WiFi as an option and despite it having a decent wireless card it gets rubbish reception. I have an old belkin n wireless router to hand, is there anything I can do to it to extend my wireless network?

Cheers,

You could try using a wifi analyser to see which channels are least congested. You would then change the wifi channel your router is using and the computer should automatically pick it up.

If it's really bad homeplugs could be an option. They use your mains wiring to provide a network signal.

Ah yes, I googled them today, was hoping I coil solve it with existing spare kit but may just have to front up for some.

I agree. Home plugs are your best bet. Very reliable in my experience. I've tried boosting signals with intermediate routers that have been chipped, and have tried a variety of wireless boosting aids. Plugs for the win.
