I’m on o2 payg and don’t have Wi-Fi calling on my Samsung a53.

The internet says the phone is compatible. Checking compatibility through the o2 app it says my phone isn’t.
My phone is unlocked and bought off Amazon.
If I swap to an o2 contract would I get Wi-Fi calling or is my phone the issue?

WiFi calling isn't available on O2 PAYG, only contracts inc SIM only.

It still does depend on specific network and phone model combinations but being a popular Samsung model is highly likely to be supported.

Had exactly the same with o2. Contract, not PAYG. Wouldn’t let me set up WiFi calling, on an iPhone 12. Phone kept saying check with operator. Couldn’t set it up on their website.

One day it just started working. Which is handy as I only get 1 bar of signal at home,

For what it’s worth, o2 is the worst network I’ve ever used. I never hit my generous data limit as the coverage is so crap.

My handset is capable of WiFi calling and I recently switched to ID Mobile who support WiFi calling...but not on my handset.

Given I can never get more than one bar of signal at home this is a real PITA.

Switch to Smarty - that's that I did and it's been working like a charm.

I need to keep o2 as it's the only network that can supply a signal at the back of Waitrose.

My payg is £10 a month, a similar contract is £18 . No incentive at all to switch apart from the calling.

Is there a 3rd party wifi calling app? We are  away in places with no signal couple of times a year and the need to contact parents on their landline.

Currently away and our friend with the same phone on Tesco has wifi calling.

£18 for a contract? What do you need from it?

My ID mobile sim only thing is only £8 with unlimited calls and texts. 20GB of mobile data. And, I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure they're using the O2 network.

Have ordered a Smarty sim , ID looks even better.

It does say it uses 3 network though.

@matt_outandabout  I.D mobile runs on the Three network.

You may realise already but they run on the three network.  None of them allow you to force WiFi calling when connected to WiFi (only to enable it as an option for your phone to figure out the best option), which means your phone/network provider handles whether it uses WiFi or mobile signal depending on relative strength. ID, Smarty and Three are terrible at selecting to use WiFi for the call and when they do the call quality is often dreadful - robotic voice and call drops.

O2 aren't the best for data speed and coverage but at least their WiFi calling is pretty solid and allows you to force calls to be WiFi calls.

EE and are the good standard for WiFi calling IMO.  MVNO 1p mobile uses EE and seems to fully share their WiFi calling features.

I've spent far too long researching and experimenting with different providers on this!

PS, I assume your PAYG at £10 a month doesn't include much data. What's your £18/month figure for? On O2 you can get 30gb/month for £8/month SIM only for 12 months

GiffGaff uses the O2 network, but I have no idea if they offer WiFi calling or how good it is.

CD I didn’t see that deal on the o2 site. That’s great and better than my payg deal.

They don’t - so I had to dump them and switch to Smarty, despite their otherwise good service. But Smarty have been good too, including the WiFi calling.

I gave up on Wifi calling as it has proven to be intermittent for me on EE contract even with a modern handset. I have better success with messaging apps  I use Siginal. Less than perfect, but a work around of sorts.

For all your 'Foo uses Blah network' needs, there's a list on Wikipedia.

There are only four carriers in the UK, everyone is reselling.
