I'm thinking of upgrading the fork on my S150s, from a rev RL to either pike rct3 or fox 36. Does anyone know the max travel this bike can take? I'm edging towards the Fox 36 Performance, but the 29er version doesn't come in 150mm, only 160mm. Will this totally screw the bike / make the head tube come off? It's already a long, low, slack bike, so my thinking is it will be longer, now quite as low, and a bit slacker. I put an extra 25mm of travel on my previous giant trance and it rode brilliantly.

Any input much appreciated

The main reason I'm looking to upgrade is because I'm jealous of how plush my mates new lyriks are!

I take it that doesn't wreck it's climbing ability etc

I upgraded mine with a charger 2 damper and new debonair air shaft so basically turned it into a pike, really transformed the fork as the motion control dampers not great. Haven’t tried it at 160mm but it’s only a new air shaft and easy to change back to 150mm if you didn’t like it.

I know a few mates who have put 160mm forks in their s-150's and all day that they've enjoyed the change.

I'm still at 150mm on mine but upgraded to a push hc97, the pike rc damper had a tendency to pack up on repeated medium hits. That made it feel like a longer travel fork as it stays up higher in its travel. I'm tempted to bump the fork travel up to 160mm but wonder if it will make it even more flexy. The pike does feel a lot less stiff than when I've demoed bikes with 36's and lyriks and I don't want to make it any worse.

I've also got a megneg ready to go on the rear shock for when I eventually ride again after breaking my tib/fib a couple weeks ago 🙃 I've always found I've had to max out the volume spacers in the shock to stop it bottoming all the time and I still find it doesn't give me that much support in turns, so I'm hoping that makes it an ideal candidate for the megneg

Don't do it. The extra travel won't compensate for the fork flexing more, if it's already an issue.

I could just about get away with a Pike at 160mm (77kg in my birthday suit) on my old E29, but I have Lyriks on my longer travel bikes now.
