As per the title, went to view a property last night which had a combi boiler put in circa 2009, but there is still a (new ish looking) cold water tank in the loft space. Why would you need to retain it if the boiler is into the mains? We're looking at doing a loft conversion so need to consider moving/getting rid of it if possible.

No need to retain it. Lots of good reasons why it might have been though. Is there a mixer shower running off it which runs sweetly with pressures as they are? Would the sensible replumb to get rid mean ripping tiles off a newly done bathroom or kitchen, and the job has been postponed until those rooms are redone?
taps and cisterns might not be mains rated
ie stick mains pressure on them and they will pass water - rather than change all taps and cisterns and pipework probably easier just to leave the tank in situ/fit a new one.
Or you are in a low pressure area and need the height and the volume of water to get a decent flow rate?

I've lived in an area with woeful mains pressure. Was very tempted to lob a cold water tank in to try and make running a pressure washer or filling a sink with cold water in less than 10mins possible.
Cheers folks, we'll be looking at re-doing the plumbing anyway with possibly a pressurised hot cylinder in the loft space so hopefully nothing to worry about.
had a house like that once - the only thing the loft tank supplied was the toilet cistern - can only assume the plumber who fitted the combi and removed the upstairs cylinder some time in the past couldn't be bothered to run a new supply a few feet
