I'm of much the same mind. Though if I'm a casual visitor to a random site and I'm bombarded with cookie notifications, newsletter signups, demands to register in order to read content, etc etc I'll just close the page and go elsewhere. The time to ask me to sign up to things is after I've been able to see a sample of what I'm signing up for.
It reminds me of the Simon Bates "you wouldn't steal a car" unskippable nagware on DVDs. Like, I've literally just bought it, what more do you want from me? If instead I'd ripped it off then I wouldn't have to listen to this patronising shit every time I put a disc in.
