Too much washing up?

Too few role models I guess

Is this at the festival or in general. Can't comment ref the festival. But there are loads of female indie bands in general.

They don't suffer from teenage angst, bad dress sense and BO so much 😉

Lauren Laverne interview with Viv Albertine.

From last night.
Just one female perspective, albeit a very individualistic one.
🙂
Well worth a listen.

Without thinking too hard:

Savages
Chastity Belt
Warpaint.

Plenty of female artists too....

Because women can get men any time they like. They don't need to be in a band.

Partly a lack of role models, but also, from a singing point of view, men often have quite a bland, middle range, meaning they can hold a tune without too much talent, and its less noticable when they can't sing well (see every indie band ever). Women, with a higher range, basically sound terrible unless they can actually sing quite well, or have lower voices. combines with a less showy off nature means less women in bands.

When there has been people like etta james and Irma Thomas then I don't care if women play in a band or not,the best female voices can just open their mouths and everything is ok.

There's loads of female indie bands! I'm guessing there weren't any at your fest, which is (as above) prob more of a sign of poor booking agent than anything else 🙂

I've seen Metalhearts suggestions, he has them in the right order.
I'd add Iko Cherie, Girl Ray and Stealing Sheep.

Why does there have to be a even mix, or even a good ratio of men to women in everything?

Why are there not as many men into crafting, why not as many men in knitting, why not as many women into cycling etc,. etc,.

Maybe women on average don't like being in bands as much as men so there are not as many.

*hangover check in*

Mrs ws was referring more to the mainstream popular stuff. As in bands that have "made it". Plenty of female solo artists and pop stuff girl groups etc.
Saw a girl lead in rock band yesterday called yonaka she was simply awesome.
A great day out for derby.

Saw an interview with Lemmy recently in which he explained Motorhead taking Girlschool on tour, how that was viewed by others. Not saying GS were (are?) an interesting band, but it was clear from what he said that it took someone with a fair bit of will power to make such things happen.
