I've had issues with Chrome in the past but now it seems generally fine apart from on here.

It runs painfully slow, to the point of being unusable.

A right click to open the new tab menu can take about 5 seconds to appear.

Even typing this has a delay.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Not particularly slow but the latest post button seems to continually go MIA, probably my IT but tbh I don’t really care. The last few rounds of forum glitches seems to have had quite an adverse impact on the nature of the forum and it’s getting a bit ghost-towny now (IMHO).

Actually it took quite a while while for that post to go through but I think I’m kinda immune to the poor performance now.

This ongoing problem, and lots of comment about it, is pretty well covered in 'The new forum' thread.

Start here

and work backwards for a week or two. You are not alone

I must just have really low expectations.

There was quite an interesting article on the register a little while back that may be relevant here; or at least go some way to explaining why the web is the way it is these days.

I agree it’s painfully slow and difficult to get to the latest post listing

It might be a bit steady compared to some websites - but it's far better than falling over every few hours like the old one did.

38s for the spinny wheel to stop for me. I don't bother trying to read before that finishes because otherwise the ads* and rendering just moves the screen all over the place.

I might have a slow connection but BBC loads in 4s.

Couple that to the lack of traffic and no longer participating in anything political, I can rarely be arsed to contribute now.

*some will say if I subscribe then that resolves itself, I subscribed for 20 years and until certain improvements are manifested I won't be again.

(and another delay in posting because only part of the reply button is actually active, you have to mouse slowly over it looking for the arrow to turn into a finger. Frankly, it's just shit)

I presume the ads are a large part of the problem which you don't see because you're well minted 😉

I'm a plebian scumbag free member and I just ran Firefox's profiler on this page and it took 17s to get to the point it had finished loading, and that's on a 100mbit connection and reasonably fast computer. (Probably the slowness depends which ad server you happen to get assigned).

I've seen it take a lot longer than that (like a minute or so), and also sometimes it gets hung in a way where you can see the page but not interact with it.

1. 2s is rare here..

2. YES 2s is slow.... slower than ANY other forum i've ever been to. They're all instant. I'm not convinced it's 2s anyway, but still 2s is 1.8s slower than any and every other forum.

posting reply took 14.8s.

I only use the forum whilst at work so 5 seconds to load a thread gets me 5 seconds closer to going home time...

It definitely looks that way. Topics used to fall off the page within hours on the old forum and theres stuff from yesterday halfway down now.

The first page is a lot longer now, so topics at the bottom of the new first page would be at the bottom of the old second page.

Android user here - free member.

It seems to be that the Add Reply button needs pulling high enough up the screen that it is not in a horizontal line with any (of the hundreds of) ads that typically encroach at the bottom of the screen. That might explain the partially active Add Reply button mentioned above.

Or it might not.

🤷‍♂️
