It seems that as soon as a company gets big and successful it is necessary to be disparaging about them and come up with lots of negative things and conspiracies.

Microsoft, McDonalds, Nestle, Shimano etc

Google have something like 97% of market share and yet still seem popular. Is there an anti-Google lobby that I just haven't heard about?

I tried Googling in from within my Google Chrome browser but it didn't return anything.

Is it because Google is brilliant and getting better all the time?

Not sure they are quite 97% but it wouldn't surprise me.
Possibly because they promise to "do no evil" in their mission statement or whatever they have?
More likely because they generally do what people want, quickly and for free (I mean, as far as advertising is concerned they are pretty low key, and you don't pay them directly).
So, free, quick and good. Surprised they don't rule the world... yet 🙂

(via Google Chrome)

edit-and because the only way I can read the ihategoogle site is via the Google cache because the original site is blocked by our firewall/isp 🙂

It's free, simple, and doens't shove itself in your face all the time. Plus almost all the things it does are intended to be good for people and make them happy. They miss the mark sometimes but that's fair enough. Everyone who works for them loves it, apparently.

because they have brainwashed us.

The film, The Matrix was a pretext to google's dominance i believe!

They give us excellent apps, websites and gizmos and all they want in exchange is our privacy. What's not to like?

Because Google is a thorn in the side of Microsoft.

Google are just at their Windows 3.1 stage. They've pretty much sown up what they do well, made (their part) of computing easy and entered the general lexicon.

Now theyre spreading their wings with Chrome, Google maps / street view etc - they've launched Win 95, and we're impressed, but sceptical. Win 98 & ME are just around the corner...

Who hates on Shimano? Oh and unlike Nestle, I don't believe Google is responsible for actions that have led to an increased mortality rate in infants in the developing world.

I like Shimano. I don't think they did anything dirty, did they? They were just better than the competition.

Look at how much stuff they invented.

google is free

google works

google clearly labels when it is showing you advertising vs organic search results

google does not reveal to SEO companies how it's algorythmns work, encouraging people to build relevant, content rich websites in order to attract new visitors, meaning there are no short cuts, and punishes companies for trying it on: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/4685750.stm

Google are great unless you work for or own an Internet related business, in which case they can be a bit scary. A few years ago they decided to buy a web analytics firm and then offered all of its services for free to everyone. Nice for everyone except web analytics vendors.

As a consumer though, it works, and will continue to be the leader until someone else does it better. Will be a while though judging by the likes of Bing.

Yes welln but to be fair, but web analytics vendors are just selling what libraries have been giving out for free for 100s of years - no sympathy here !

no, they love Dr. Google as most sane people self diagnose the problem as something they can fix with over the counter drugs. this is leading to less strain on their time for which they use to play golf in because everybody is self diagnosing themselves and thus they have no patients!

When they stop growing at 25% p.a. all the existing talent will move to the next place they can make tons of money from share options and they won't be able to attract new talent for the same reasons. It's already happening with lots of 'smart' people moving to Facebook.

Google will end up like Microsoft, a stodgy old company with the share price moving continually sideways.

No no no, librarians have nothing but respect and admiration for Google, it's an extremely clever search engine. Have to love the way they keep changing the algorithms too. Not a fan of these SEO sellers, like they invented taxonomies and metadata. Pah !

YouTube introduced me to a video of a monkey riding on a pig. Backwards. For that I will never ever be able to hate it.

Everything Google does for free is to earn more advertising revenue. That's it. Oh, and even their first employee says they've gone too far with their deal with Verizon. As for "Don't be evil" (their corporate slogan), I assume that's said with a sly wink.

Yeah right!

Google collects a lot of information about you. It certainly ain't free!

You might not be paying them directly, but they are using your browsing history very much to their financial advantage!

There are also serious issues of privacy.

Nothing is for free these days!
