Anyone else experienced or noticed this? Apart from in liquid alcoholic form we could not find grapes for sale anywhere in France on our recently ended 2 week holiday there. Not in leclerc, not in carrefour, nor intermarche, lidl or SuperU. Not even in the massive local market we went too, where there many fruit stalls selling all kinds of exotic fruits but ne'er a grape to be seen. Very odd, anyone know why?

Seasonal? I bought some in bourg d'oisans a couple of weeks ago and they were poor and v little choice. August normally a massive choice and so much better than UK imports.

You think the french want to waste grapes by eating them?!

Yeah I thought it might be seasonal but you get them all year round in Britain!

In France you generally get seasonal produce from France, if its not available then that is pretty much it - the demand/infrastructure is not there to do the UK thing :

In the UK you get everything all year however much it costs your pocket or the environment.

The French are a very proud nation and so pride probably precludes the notion of importing something which they grow themselves.

I live in France and grapes are seasonal and home produce and always have seeds they are no where near as nice as the ones imported to Uk from south africa etc....a pity as its one of the foods i miss along with Hienz beanz and marmite ...good streaky bacon can be had but its called Potrine de fumme (spelling may be off) and its by the lardons and cooked ham in Carfour market.

Having just spent a week in Bordeaux, and in fact I'm writing this on the ferry back, the answer as far as I can work out is - you can, everywhere. My kids love them and eat them like smarties. Would have been a long trip without grapes stashed in the car!

We haven't been able to buy them this week in Auvergne, but I did consume enough wine to make up...

This may be a figment of my imagination, but I think we found fresh milk just north of the Pyrenees last summer. I'll ask Mrs Pondo tomorrow.

yeah what's all that about, no fresh milk either as they all drink UHT muck? seems very odd with a country so obsessed with food.

Is the diluting Orange juice near the bacon too?

You can't get a sandwich without deceased animals in them either. Fact.

Come on France, pull your socks up!

Nearly everything is available if you know where to look and can read/speak the language

Although i will agree the french make crap sandwiches but when you have bought one at the motorway services you can sit and eat it with out fear of being chased out by some twit telling you only MacDonald customers can sit here.
