Apologies if this irritates those in charge of the tech side but today I was once again reminded of the fact that there's something on this site/,forum that my android devices ( all I use ) just can't work with.
I hadn't visited the site for quite some time and had been browsing the web for weeks with no issues but as soon as I went on the forum and tried to construct a thread it was almost impossible . The words typed would keep jumping about, changing and generally the whole experience was a nightmare.
I finally managed to write this by doing one thing which I didn't want to and won't detail.
Can anyone explain from a technical point of view what is going on . I don't experience this anywhere else on the web except singletrackworld...probably the reason I visit less often which seems a shame and has been going on a long time iirc.

Could it be browser related?
I use Opera on here (with certain features enabled) and it works fine.
{That said I've also used Chrome here and don't remember any issues}

Android/Chrome here too. No plug-ins or other weird configuration. I don't experience that problem.

I get issues with chrome and a bit of jumping. I think it's to do with the way pages load and the order things display. If it's quick it's ok, if it's slow then it jumps. Generally better on opera.

This site is a disaster.

Constant hangs, slow loading and sometimes I get half a page.

And that's without talking about the auto play videos that pop up.

Chrome, up to date on a G7 power, no extensions, no hide adverts apps etc - just vanilla chrome. Every other site I go to on the www works, just this place.

I give up half the time.

I'm getting an iPad soon just to see how the other half live.

Works fine on Android & Chrome on my phone, running Android 10 but it's terrible on my old tablet which uses an ancient version of Android with just as old Chrome that it can't update.

See that little icon bottom left of every single page that says "help"?

I don't have any problems using Chrome on Android 10. But I do have a sub, and if I've been logged out the site can behave a bit oddly (so I log in).

The Help icon Cougar refers to is in the left sidebar, which is visible on a desktop but hidden on my phone unless I tap the icon with six squares on it, just left of the burger icon.

It plays up on my new work Moto Pro. Was absolutely fine on the G7 I had before and is fine and dandy on my MK1 iPhone SE.
Maybe it's the new fangled Android one, or whatever it's called.
It could just be Motorola as the Bluetooth on the Pro is utterly crap and its had a zillion updates in the month I've used it.

Actually I only have nougat on my phone but trouble with both chrome and Firefox.
The same issue exists on my Amazon fire hd10 tablet modded with the fire toolbox . Again chrome and Firefox have the issue. As stated the problem vanishes by doing one thing which is frowned upon
No real answer yet, it seems just Cougar was irritated as I suspected might happen. Perhaps it's really because they can't fix it?

If it can't be replicated then solving it will prove difficult.
I don't use Chrome for this site and it works fine, but my device is newish and running latest versions of everything.

I wasn't irritated I was trying to help. Starting threads isn't going to get issues resolved, reporting them at least might.

Dunno about the mobile site, I never use it.

No real answer yet,

Have you tried emailing tech@singletrackworld.com with details?

It works fine on Android/chrome for me on a moto g8.

I think the point is that if we're not having problems - then it's prob not an android issue

Why does this site give my android device so much trouble?

I thought everyone knew the answer to this: the site is optimised for Drac's iPad, everyone else must suffer.

I don't know if this is any help to the OP or indeed the Singletrack web team - but I've had issues replying to posts for about a year on iPhone where anything more than a sentence becomes unbreakable slow and anything over a paragraph likely to cause the page to reset. Latest version of iOS and safari so assume its in the technical team's test suite.

Its now almost impossible to even view the forum on iOS as 1/2 the pages load blurred with an add over the top which has an unresponsive close button or a giant eBay add that if you are not careful with hitting exactly the X you end up on eBay.

Distributed cryptocurrency mining, just saying……

It has crossed my mind as its certainly consuming way more resources than it should on both desktop and mobile. Its weird because I could almost believe they don't want the traffic to consistently get the user experience this bad, but they must be the only ad supported web content on the net that doesn't want more visitors and more people contributing!

Well reporting them doesn’t help either. I’ve seen loads of threads like this since I joined and everyone seems to blame the reporter and nothing is ever done as the same complaints come up over and over again.
I assume it’s been like this for a while from what people are saying.

Seems to be, yeah. Alternative browsers and/or phone/system/app updates can help solve the issue for some, but it seems to be rather specific to an individual setup so I'm guessing is proving very difficult to identify.

"not my problem......works for me"

To get to "Help" on mobile, you have to click on the little icon at teh top that looks like a chocolate bar, this opens up the side nav and Help is the question mark in a circle icon.....took a map to find that

From browsing the replies above they seem to be split free member / full member.. so I'm going to guess something to do with ad-based scripts etc.

Android + Chrome = fine for me.

1. It's your fault for not being an IT professional

2. It's your fault for not using dracs ipad

3. It's your fault for... It's just your fault

"Have you tried emailing tech@singletrackworld.com"

Ha ha - I've emailed tech@ mods@ whoever@ 6 times & not had a single response or the issue I'd emailed about resolved.

You’ve never emailed the Mods, mods don’t look after tech. I’ve no idea what issue you’re taking about I found a thread where to tech team replied to you. The same thread you were complaining as no one had been in touch within a few hours.

Yay! Blame the member/victim again!! 🙄

He said he hadn’t got a reply from any of the 6 emails he sent. The point he was making was that whoever he has been asked to email don’t think he is important enough to receive an answer. Which frankly is very poor.

But as others seem to say, it doesn’t help anyway so he may as well not have bothered.

I only pay so I get a reasonable website experience and I don’t buy the mag anymore so it’s a bit cheaper but I’ll reconsider if that’s the attitude towards the paying members.

I’m not blaming the member I can only find history of them asking about changing their email address from an expire one, complaining they had not heard 7 hours after emailing tech. The issue was resolved

Hasn't worked on Android Firefox since the site was updated. I'm 83% almost sure that it's to do with all the advertising as i'm a freeloader free user.

tldr; its the adverts. You can mitigate it by disabling javascript.

This is one of the wackier perf profiles I've ever seen in 15 years of web dev. I suspect the powers that be are aware of this, and wish that more people would pay, so the ads werent needed

lolwtf

:edit:

while attempting to post this, the site crashed the browser tab

Agreed - because it works fine on Android Firefox for me, as a paying user.

Actually, it follows as I'd forgotten to renew my subs. Now I've coughed the cash the text doesn't jumble as I write (any more than normal).
It was totally unusable on this phone before. So not the phone but the ads.
