Hi folks
Im refurbing a house and there is a huge chimney breast in the lounge in old cornish stone I like it but the last owner's have varnished it about 20yrs ago and it looks crap . I don't really want to flapper wheel the whole lot is there any way I can wash down, treat with something and then paint it
Thanks in advance for any advice
Pete
Paint stripper, lash it on. Won't effect the stone or mortor.
Ventilate well and rub with a green scouring pad on the stone to stop from scratching it.
wait - you want to paint it? just paint it...
No don't just paint it, well yes do but..:-
Wash it with sugarsoap (its bound to be dirty)
Paint with a problem solving primer (Blackfriars or Zinnser bullseye 123 plus)
Then you can paint it with whatever (emulsion rather than oil based would be my choice)
If you just throw paint at it you may suffer in the future, or not, but it's not worth the risk.
Thanks for reply - what paint would be best undercoat then ?
Thanks bigh - just seen your reply
yeah, what he said....
