I've just taken out a UK recovery policy with them, as they're half the price of AA and RAC and they seem to be present in the market place from an advertising stand-point, but I never see their vans out and about. Should I have not been a tightwad and paid more for the other two?

They use local garages - its a bit like Just Eat but without the curry.

Yep, I used them for years - great service, but the vans / trucks aren't branded.

With modern cars I'm not sure much of anything over maybe a misfuel or flat tyre could be fixed at the roadside without a massive selection of parts.

The sub the work out to local garages.  I'm sure they have some of their own vans as I've seen them before.  I have a policy with them and used them last year, great service.

FWIW, I had to (try to) call them out a few months ago on behalf of a little old lady whose car had broken down. They didn't pick up and, while there was an option for a call back, it took about 45 mins for them to do so. Thankfully we'd managed to get the car going again by that point but I wasn't particularly impressed with the service. In their defence, it was a couple of weeks before Christmas on a Saturday afternoon so there might have been an unusually high call volume that day.

I'm with them as well so thinking about changing when it's up for renewal 🙂

At the very back of an industrial estate near you is a compound with a Portacabin and two blokes in jobsworth jackets, eating pies, watching TV and waiting for the call from any one of a variety of road rescue organisations.

That's not my experience, mechanic from local garage turned up. Very professional and very helpful.

The only real niggle about subbing out, is that unlike the AA and RAC, there is an incentive for an independent garage to bring back a nice little earner to stick on their ramps and issue a big repair bill.  The established services are measured on roadside repair success rate so they will do all they can to get you moving.

My local guy has fully liveried Green Flag transit custom, used him a couple of times, super quick and very good.

I choose where the car goes, which kinda blows that theory out the water.
