Why can't I attract the birds?

I like tits. I especially like it when they nest in my garden. We had a really successful nest box in the side of the house, had a pair nest in it every year for about 8 years but the box was starting to fall apart. So last year I bought a new box with a wi-fi connected camera in it and put it up in exactly the same place. Since then, not a sniff. Not even a peek in through the hole. All of last season nothing. Now nudging to towards spring and still no interest.

Same box size, same location, same door/hole size. Still got lots of birds in the general area, in particular in the beech hedge nearby.

How can I attract them as every time I open the app on my phone, look at the livestream and see it is empty I get sad.

I also hide my nuts in the middle of a bush,so it stops the bigger birds frightening the tits away .

How would you feel if some weirdo installed a camera in your bedroom?

We have 7 bird boxes of various types in our garden. It is a complete lottery as to what birds nest in which boxes. Apart from the Wren's, they love theirs. We also have sparrows all round so I built a sparrow terrace. Not a sniff in 10 years of it being up. Nature makes it's own decisions.

A new bird box may well smell horribly to a bird - if they are painted or treated particularly.

Out biggest issue are the bully boy Magpies and Crows which are just brutal and flying gobshites....

Same here - a lovely 4 berth sparrow box which has only been used by blue tits.... until last weekend when a bunch of sparrows started taking an interest and taking nest material in.
