Ok strange thing. If i go to evans cycles website on my phone and its connected to my wifi then it times out. On data connection its just fine.

Any idea why this might be?

It will almost certainly be related to the DNS that your WiFi is using. It normally defaults to the ISP's DNS but you can change it to Google's (8.8.8.8) or OpenDNS, etc

do you have the same issue with other devices on your wi-fi? PC's laptops etc?

If they work unlikely to be dns *unless* the evans mobile site behaves differently.

Try accessing their non-mobile site on your phone over wi-fi and see what happens.

Check for firmware updates in the app?

Are you definitely connecting to the new Wi-Fi mesh and there isn't an old one residual on the router?

What's the actual "time out" error message?

Hmm. That site appears to be behind some kind of arcane proxy service, as far as I can tell it's a quirk of Level 3's CDN hosting.

Try emptying your browser cache, see if that fixes it.

Failing that, try a different browser, does that then work? If so, humour me, then try the original browser again.

I have the same thing. On Virgin too. Thought it was just the Evans site that was playing up. Hadn't tried outside of WiFi.

I had it on a Nokia phone with certain websites, can't remember if Evans was one but Chain Reaction definitely was.

New phone and it's never been an issue again. Plusnet broadband.

Aha.

Seems it is a CDN issue. What @greybeard suggests should work.

Same issue here, works fine on data but not on virgin wifi.

Looks like CRC are on a CDN also, albeit CloudFlare rather than Level 3, so could well have been a similar issue.

Same for me, doesn’t work on my (virgin) WiFi, on phone or laptop, but works fine on 4g

But aren't most popular sites on some CDN?

Content delivery network
It means you pick up the site from a local copy rather than the original server, helps to stop bringing the main server down with too much traffic.

Do this on your Wireless connection:

https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/blog/2019/01/changing-your-dns-settings-on-windows-10/

Change it to 9.9.9.9.

If you have problems, you can set it back to auto with the same steps.

In an ideal world you'd want to do this on your router rather than the device, but Google would suggest that they've blocked you from doing this on later "home hubs."
