Bought something on Ebay last Tuesday. Seller posted Wednesday.

Received a notification it was out for delivery on Saturday. Nothing.

Received a notification is was out for delivery on Sunday. Nothing.

Received a notification is was out for delivery on Monday. Nothing.

It must be getting scanned somewhere in the system to trigger the notifications, so why is it getting multiple scans but going nowhere?

It's not even much cheaper than Royal Mail.

I think I going to pay sellers the difference not to use Evri.

IMHO they're great at what they do, but it's just that their customers aren't us, it's the retailers so their product is cheap, really cheap at scale. They offer easy returns and best of all, their reputation is so bad with their customers, customers they can absorb all the negative feedback so it never touches their customers.

It's the only logical conclusion I can reach from their continued success in business and their multi-million pound rebrand that they went to such lengths to publicise as being a rebrand, any other business with such a toxic brand would have do anything to avoid the connection with the old one, but they went right the other way with it.

It really depends on your local depot and courier. We used to have problems with the local guy delivering when one of our neighbours upset him and he refused to deliver to our track with 8 houses on it. Gave all sorts of excuses including multiple attempted delivery notices. I did the same as you suggested and checked with the seller and didn’t buy stuff if they would only use Evri. The ones since have seen great, particularly the current one.

This.

We have no issues with Evri deliveries here in Aviemore - it's just a pain having to go to Inverness to return stuff!

For quite some time my Evri driver was a pro enduro rider who lost his contract when CRC went bust. New driver is a mate of mine. Both seem super reliable but, even with them in place, we still get random deliveries which haven't been delivered, no proof of delivery, retailer then refunds and then package turns up a few days later. My wife just got £100 of clothing for free recently when the retailer accepted it had been lost, refunded and then delivery arrived.

This. Edinburgh depot and a cheery chap called Chris who's done our Evri deliveries for the past year or so. No problems. Hopefully not cursing it by typing this.

Evri seem fine where I am, can't remember them losing anything etc. the only annoyance is their Safe Place option only allows certain places from a set list and there's no "other" option where you can specify it like other couriers & Royal Mail have.

This many times over, plus it helps if you live somewhere that is easy to deliver to (visible house numbers, can stop right outside, short distance from road to door, someone usually at home, somewhere safe to leave if no-one in) tick all those boxes & deliveries are usually much smoother.

We occasionally tip out Evri guy seeing as he's good and it being a shit job and all that.

Because they are cheap, and good enough for merchants to keep using them.  That's what happens when businesses compete on price.  On the plus side, we get cheap stuff.

DPD do set the standard here though. Our DPD lad takes a look through the window to check if I'm on a work call. If I am busy, he'll open the door, pop the package in the hallway and play with the dog for a few minutes. If he sees I'm free, he rings the doorbell for a chat. I'm sure one day I'll find him making himself a coffee in the kitchen.

Yep, gotta praise where its due. We moved 5 years ago and the Evri guy that covers the village we now live in is absolutely spot on - same bloke, which gives consistency, he knows where people want stuff leaving (or not), and helps out with issues where he can.

I ordered some approach shoes on Sunday (just before midday, expecting them to take a week or so to pitch up)
Evri first message Monday midday "We're expecting your parcel"
Evri second message Monday 14:30 "We've got it"

Evri third message Tues 10:26 "It's out for delivery"

Evri fourth message Tues 10:42 "We've just delivered it", and indeed they had about 2 mins before.
No complaints at all on that basis, I'll admit.

Not evrione gets the same experience, obviously.

My Evri guy is great.

Rpyal Mail on the other hand.....had a parcel delivered while I was in yesterday and the email it said it was delivered to an 'out building', I don't mind this as I have my shed as an option for if I'm not in.

In between the bins just inside the gate isn't classed as an out building to me though.....

Actually, I saw my Evri guy on the street the other day as I was going out, I knew I had a parcel comeing so went over to him. We had to walk back towards my house to be within 50m of the property before his machine would let him say he'd delivered it.

It really depends on your local depot and courier.

People say this every single thread, but that really assumes that there are never any problems before the final mile. A really good local driver can't make up for problems with the whole network.

Good point, but they do seem a lot less flakey than they used to be for losing stuff at the depot stage.

I end up using them a lot because most eBay buyers select them via Simple Delivery, and have had no issues in the last couple of years.

I still find they lose a few, I haven't had *loads* of lost parcels to have an idea of if it's gotten better or worse though. They're the only courier I've ever had parcels that have been lost forever with.

I guess I feel the problem with evri isn't the final mile, or even the prior handling, but the way that they totally ignore any issues and are impossible to contact. A good driver just doesn't make up for the fundamental flaws in the company.

Yodel is just pot luck if you get it or not, although their team up with Inpost might help with that, as they're not delivering to your door.

Amamzon is also hit and miss, recently we've had stuff literally thrown over the gate, I saw him do it, but by the time I'd stopped what I was doing and got out the gate he was driving away. Also had Amamzon stuff just left out in the rain when they have to walk past an unlcoked shed to and from the door....

They're all as bad as each other. Load seem to maon about Parcelforce but they've always been great for me.

Used to be awful here but the latest driver is actually pretty good but only once it gets to her. Usually multiple notifications stating have got parcel and then often seems to sit there for a few days before it actually comes out. Similar with Royal Mail, my postie is great and if its tracked or 24/48 hours is pretty reliable. Best is either Amazon or DPD as delivery notifications are pretty accurate.  For me the one I always avoid is Yodel.

Best thing I did was get a large parcel box at the end of the drive as saves them having to check if anyone is in to deliver to unless its really big

I'll disagree with this. They delivered a parcel to someone else's house that then couldn't be found. Went online, they notified the retailer and had a refund sent within 24 hours. No issues at all.

I see people's complaints about evri and they often make me smile...cos you ain't seen nuffin!

We have no issues with Evri deliveries here in Aviemore - it's just a pain having to go to Inverness to return stuff!

Which annoys me! I'm (in Highland terms) just up the road but in a post code that is 'serviced' by a last mile provider. Perfectly reasonable and friendly guy but he somehow is allowed to save up parcels until he has enough for an area to make it worth his while coming out. I'm a 12 min drive from a Maccy D drive through - I'm not properly rural rural, as in two ferries and a handcart proper rural. But he only swings by our area once every 3 weeks. So by the time you add the best part of a week it takes to get from the sender to the last mile provider the average delivery time for their service is 2.5 weeks but it can get to a month easy. Amazon deliveries (that have not been farmed out to evri) are always next day however without fail.

I love a good Evri rant.

We do occasionally get a good driver but for the most part they're absolutely shite, as is the Aberdeen depot.

In that past year or so...

-School shoes from Schuh - lost (refunded)
-Gift box from Lush - lost (refunded)
-Clothes from Vinted - package burst open and clothes wet
-Mechanical keyboard from AliExpress - left at someone else's house, thankfully I retrieved it
-Small parts and tools from AliExpress - one order but split into two packages, both lost (refunded eventually)
-More parts from AliExpress - Received the "at the depot" notification then it vanished for a week. Eventually turned up after I emailed the -CEO (you just go through to their PA or someone)
-Sony Headphones from John Lewis - Left on the doorstep in the pissing rain, boxed damaged and headhphones wet. Driver literally ran off before I got to the door (saw him on the Ring camera)
-Dresser unit from eBay - left at someone else's house, thankfully they came round and told me it was there so I could pick it up
-Trousers from Dare2B - left at the same address as above but vanished before I could pick them up (refunded)
-Another gift box from Lush - received two "sorry we couldn't deliver" messages despite us being in (no sign of them even attempting deliver on the Ring, eventually turned up a week late

On the other hand, whenever I've sent anything via Evri it always gets to the recipient with no issues.

Our local evri is great, the person actually has a name and people know who they are and they do a very reliable job IME. Sometimes there are mistakes which are quickly sorted through the local town FB page (I don't think it's particularly evri mistakes, just deliveries in general).

I've had a couple of occasions in the last 6 months where they've lost parcels somewhere in the chain of delivery (before it reached the local courier), where they've said they'll totally liaise with the sender and get it sorted, and well, they just didn't. When the sender has contacted them to get the story, they've ended up in the same doom loop of auto responders. I get particularly irritated that even if you can get them to admit they've lost stuff, they absolutely refuse to update the tracking to reflect that it's lost, and it just stays as "we've got it, and we'll deliver it soon". Setting it to lost would make things loads easier with getting refunds.

I’m currently experiencing Evri woes. They have lost / stolen a parcel of mine. Fair enough it happens, what is really boiling my piss however is after a couple of weeks they claimed to have found my parcel and it will be with me that day… 10 days later after no further updates they said they tried to deliver it, and now it’s on its way back to the vendor.  The delivery address is there delivery lockers!

clearly they never found my parcel, but insist on playing this charade

Why are Evri just completely rubbish?

In general? Because they undercut other providers when tendering and then can't quite perform the service to the level that lets them make the margin they want. Of course the decent thing to do in those circumstances would be to take a loss and do it right. But...

The way to 'hurt' them is to escalate, repeatedly to the retailer that uses them. If a major retailer, they might eventually drop them if it harms their margin/reputation too. But they'll have priced this in too - to an extent. But going back to Evri/Yodel/Whoever is not going to do any good. Their customer service systems are deliberately slow, cumbersome and clunky - put off potential claimants = see no evil, hear no evil.

Having said all that, Evri around our way don't seem too bad. Yodel, on the other hand, are dreadful.

That is, if they are still called those names - every so often the accumulated bad press is judged to be too much - so they change name. It doesn't fool everybody, but it fools enough people to meet the business model.

Evri the company is awful because they're one of the most rapacious, aggressive, race-to-the-bottom companies in the whole gig economy.

The individual drivers can be great but they're just put under unbearable pressure and asked to do the impossible.

There's a reason that pretty much every delivery I do is either DHL to their locker (I live in Germany, and I have about 5 I can pick from), or to an Amazon locker.

To the door, DHL are usually not bad, and someone in the building will accept all the parcels for everyone.

Amazon just dump the lot in a place visible from the street in a city centre with an unlocked door and do a runner, and set them all to "received by recipient".

Amazon have also managed an "address could not be found", for one of their lockers.  To be fair, they are brown, so camoflaged at night, unlike DHL whose lockers are yellow.

Worst is if I get a delivery from UK handed off to a German Evri equivalent.  Who know what will happen.  Half ended up back at the sender cos the import duty wasn't paid (thanks Brexshit), before I was even aware a parcel was due to arrive!

A new thing I have is the tracking either shows it sat in the local depot for days or I get an email saying item delivered, but when you look at the tracking it is 'Out for delivery'. It then might turn up 2 days later. This is Evri and Yodel BTW.

DHL (or is it DPD) send a text with the time slot and nothing happens. Next day another time slot and nothing happens. After any number of random time slots the item might appear, or more likely delivered to the wrong address. If I didn't have a very nice neighbours (and there are only 3 properties here) then I would be screwed.

And don't get me started on eBay and their 'proof of receipt' from Royal Mail. £16 I never recovered.

Its a postcode lottery!

Our local guy is the nuts. No complaints at all.

The previous guy however, got nicked for theft of packages.

A few years ago I was involved in doing some IT stuff for various Evri depots that were being constructed. They put them up pretty quickly and in operation they were quite impressive but I can see how even a minor glitch could impact delivery of thousands of parcels. They were quite a demanding customer in terms of expecting things to be done at the drop of a hat so I was glad when they moved their business from my then employer.

Luxury! Literally in what must be way north of 200 Evri deliveries have I ever had anything delivered anything like as swiftly. As I said previously, some of you don't appreciate how lucky you are!
