What I can't believe is that someone would register as South Africa 2010 6 months ago just so they could post this sort of bollox now.

You appear to be a bit lost - judging by your posting history you need to be on some sort of football related forum.

You can't blame thatcher. You can only blame the existing government. If you blame an old one then you'll never stop blaming them for everything.

/laughs

What a ridiculous state of affairs that would be if people did that.

Because being patriotic gets you done for being racist/bigoted/un PC and most that "claim" to support the country are just BNP supporting yobs.

I love the UK - but being English, I must apologise for doing so.

Don't we have plenty to be ashamed of ? This is my chosen country (though I'm Welsh) and I'm content (and proud) to be here, but that doesn't blind me to the strengths and weaknesses of the British.

I blame myself really.. I know alot of people blame Thatcher but I can't really understand why.. and I made the statement with my tongue in my cheek..
I was only a child when she was in power and other than the strikes and peace convoys and rioting and protesting and raving which were all good things to my young rebel soul I was unaware of her influence on the country..

And besides.. more importantly and perhaps tellingly.. down here in the lawless coastal regions of the mild mild westcountry.. the Thatcher name is much more famous amongst young and old alike for being a potent somerset cider manufacturer..

so I blame myself... but I think it would be more appropriate to blame each one of YOU! 😀

patriotism is a device used to bind a population together to deal with external threats/create a shared identity, and as such is an expression of weakness. we're know we're the best, so why bother trumpeting?

This was actually a serious question - your Prime Minister wants to hang an England flag outside No 10 for the duration of the world cup and he's getting slated for it. You have a team at the tournament, presumably you'd like them to do well, why not show your support?

Scotland would be cheering their team if they'd got through for sure 🙂

because lets be honest;

We're a small, bancrupt island nation stuck in the north atlantic with a regressive government and generaly hate everyone on all sides (the french, the germans, the ammericans, etc etc etc). However now that most people have realied our diminished global influenece is even more rapidly dwindling and no one could really give a monkeys poop about what we say we've turned that hate inwards and now just hate ourselves.

I think we need a list.

We're blaming
1. Thatcha
2. Thatchers Cide
3. Vlad the impaler
4. Nelson Mandella

I'm going to add James Corden, Patrick Stwewart and the Chuckle Brothers to the list.

Any more?

Well sfb's to blame for everything so essentially a moot point.

I also blame God (in whichever flavour you choose) since everything is his will.

Patriotism is good, and the English should be proud of their country and flag.

It was built to keep the barbarians out. What puzzles most Scots is why the barbarians were so obliging as to build it 🙂

But I don't expect every other English-born person to - they have a choice.

And not every Scotch would support Scotland if they were in the tournament.

yep, I think they would. Anyway the romans had already battered the bollocks out of the scots at the battle of mons grappus. Latest thinking is they built the wall to grow vines up.

Ahh, see well what he was trying to say was that the English built the wall and were the barbarians. But the Romans (Probably aided by the British of the time, granted) built it, didn't they?

And since then the Anglo Saxons, Danish and Normans have colonised England. So it ain't diddly sqaut to do with us, chap! 😉
