It's hotter than a hot thing so can't put anything on it yet. Simple Abby Angus burgers with Monty jack cheese and some chicken breast on skewers that's been festering in that barbecue mop sauce stuff. Nom de la nom!

Yep got the meat sweats now. Thinking of lighting the fire pit though, going a bit chilly.

On a seafood trip tonight, scallop and chorizo kebabs, grilled squid and Serrano ham wrapped monkfish, washed down with Jim Beam and L&P. I wonder what the poor people are doing!

Burgers and sausage. Maybe some fighting lager.

We barbecued pizza for the first time last night. Bought a cheap pizza stone for £7 instead of the Weber one for £44. Not sure I got the barbecue hot enough according to the thermometer I put in it, however the pizza was done inside 5 mins so I suppose so.

Only a cheap supermarket pizza though. Going to try home-made dough next time. I made the mistake of putting the coals under the stone, which got the stone too hot first time. So on the third pizza I spread them out into a circle to try and get the heat around the sides of the stone and onto the toppings. According to the internet, the ideal is to put the coals in a C shape and put the pizza stone off to one side, sort of like a Turkish flag, then rotate the pizza. Will try next time.

I was rather surprised yesterday evening. At the merest hint of warmth on a Saturday night the street is normally full of the stench of starter fluid and the sound of cheap boom boxes in gardens. But - nothing.

We had a BBQ on Saturday - lovely weather all day, got the sun parasol out in anticipation of needing some shade, got everything on and cooking (burgers, sausages and chicken skewers if you are interested) then it started bloody raining. It was still warm though so we sat outside using the sun parasol to protect us from the rain FFS.

Then we had a 'hot stone' meal (indoors, cooked at the table on a pre-heated stone) last night too (steak, salmon and fresh tuna). That was very yum yum.

BBQ lunch today at my sister's place in Consett ..having stayed over ( Stanley ) after my Nephews wedding ..
Don't know about a heatwave though ..quite breezy but very warm when the sun shone from behind the clouds ..enough to melt the last of the winter snow ( 😁 )
Just the usual burgers, sausage, buns with beers from the ice bucket etc today .. with fresh berries, meringue & whipped cream to follow ..nice and simple after yesterday's fine dining and a nice chilled end to a great three days ..

Had the in-laws round on Saturday - nine of them in total across three generations. Did butterflied leg of lamb over the fire bowl with some salads ... and it wasn’t a total failure. Fed 12 people handsomely for about £45 plus booze.

One Saturday at a friend's, Pork fillet, chicken thighs, Tuna steaks.

Yesterday cooked up at home, peppers and corgette, chicken breast, halloumi and Tuna steaks. Then used a cast iron dish for a chicken chilli. Food for the week ahead and some in the freezer.

Cooking over coal isn't just for hot days, I use my grill whenever I can, love a bit of Charcoal. Dalby forest stuff too 🙂

@toby1 - yes, totally that. There was a point when I made a conscious choice to treat the barbecue/fire bowl as equipment as opposed to an event. Transformed my cooking (I do about 90%) and enjoyment of cooking as a result.
