Speeding offence from a covert speed camera. (Yup they are hidden in turrets here! see pic below) Clocked me doing in excess of 45km/h over the limit which was 80km/h.... ( So in old money close to 90 when I should have being doing 50.
SHYTE
Car's gonna be impounded for 28 days. Obs costs there for storage. Cops coming to see me today. I know the road well, super dry, sunny, just wanted to get past a couple of cars the were on the inside lane, I could see a gap ahead and accelerated to get to that point for perhaps 700-800m. Obvs caught bang to rights so will likely end up in court / fine and fees. Will see what the cops want to do when they come see me soon.
Like this one but was well hidden in bushes (dry dead long grasses) by side of road in a rural area.

You know people on here are going to want to see pics of you burnt at the stake for speeding?!
Edit: Also the speed cam looks like a repurposed Sinclair C5. WTAF??!!
You’re in Aus, right? Me too. Have often thought that is the speeding ticket I’ll get when you ‘just’ push it a bit to get past a couple of cars in that short overtaking section. Annoying as hell but as you’ve already said yourself: bang to rights.
Where was it? And hope the fine isn’t too large but double demerits will hurt!
Wasn't in double demerits period
Cops just been charge is reckless driving. However the traffic act says reckless is 45 over the limit or greater than 155. They told me I was 42 over so I don't see this as reckless in the eyes of the law but waiting in thrm to call me back. Car is booked for impound but I'm not sure if this still happens as the lower charge of dangerous driving I'm not sure has a forced impound.
Awwwww diddums. 😩😩😩. 🙄
If you are in Victoria there is a letter somewhere on the internet that you can send in basically saying you're an idiot and you won't do it again. If it is your 1st offence, it might get you off but, given the amount you were over, mebbes no.
Are you still allowed to drive while your car is impounded if you have a 2nd car?
I can still drive a car until the court decide what my punishment will be. Could be a 6 month ban and fine. Was signed off from work the previous week due to stress and diabetic burnout. I went back to work on the Monday after the Sunday I was caught speeding but only just got notified of the offence. No priors bar a few km over and $100 fine, no demerits. I have 2 demerits from Jan 18. Have since been signed off work and currently on annual leave which was pre booked. Was stressed as my insulin pump hasn't been working properly since I got it, so three months of poor broken sleep which affected my work to the point where I was having panic attacks and put this down to work stress not the pump / lack of sleep but all adds up.
As I previously said I've admitted I was wrong but will just have to surrender my car for 28 days and see what happens on court.
Appreciate the diddums comment, really helpful. You have no idea what my life has been like the last couple of years and I really don't give a flying fk of your opinion. Wish I was as righteous as you.
Sounds pretty harsh but if I'm honest, fair. Just ignore the self righteous comments, you're damned whether you deny it or hold your hands up so best not bothering with them.
Also the speed cam looks like a repurposed Sinclair C5. WTAF??!!
I thought it was made from Robot Wars spares.
Got a touch of the Cylon about it, too.
Yeah it's fair. I was speeding. Just many factors than just a heavy foot. Been driving since I was 17 and never done anything like this. Not even a sneaky beer or two. Always sober just cant believe I was going so much over the limit. I looked at the googke maps route from my starting point and it says 36 mins to home. My gps timeline says I was back in 35 mins so clearly I was on the limit for the majority of the journey, jusy seems 800m getting past a couple of cars and into the correct lane was excessive. You kind of get sick of the people who match your speed and dont let you back over so I just wanted to get ahead of these couple of cars with a safe distance ahead rather than cutting across too soon. Go hum life's a bitch eh
What’s a Po Po?
Fat-boy-fat
Yeah found one. Will do one and catch a lawyer after the weekend. Thanks
Appreciate the diddums comment, really helpful.
Reread your original post and i don't even know what help you are asking for so i don't know why you originally posted? Bit like the QC tweeting about fox & the baseball bat killing ... don't share it if you don't want opinions.
You have no idea what my life has been like the last couple of years and I really don’t give a flying fk of your opinion
How is that relevant to a speeding ticket?
What’s a Po Po?
Sounds like the police.
Po po is what "cool" people call tbe police these days. Get with it grandad.
🙂 this is like exactly like being on the speed awareness course I recently had to do, but like, I was just passing a camper van as the road went all hard to overtake after that bit. But whilst I drive pretty fast, I'm not reckless or owt and I wasn't drunk, and y'know I had a lot of stuff going on and a lot on my plate.
So,like, erm but yeah I was speeding but it's no big deal, right?
The 28 days impound is a great idea, why can’t we have that in the UK? And on the 3rd strike crush it obvs 🤡
90 when you should have been doing 50! That's +80% of the limit!
I understand your reasoning, all the 'just trying to get ahead' stuff, but really there's no excuse for that. +20% I could maybe understand.
Nuke I wasn't asking for anything but as many find writing things down in bkack and white kind of helpful i though it might help clear things up in my own head. I wasn't asking for or expecting opinions but obvs this is stw and some people can't help being dicks can they? Don't worry I'm not offended this is par for the course here.
Theboatman:must be hard being so perfect hey?
I'm not going to reply to ridiculous comments. Crack on if you feel you must.
You have no idea what my life has been like
Did The Eagles sing about you?
@aphex_2k I was on a speed awareness course mate, so clearly I'm a prick like you. But seems it did make me reflect on the crap I do, how pious of me hey.

Yup. I know. Long gentle down hill. 2 lanes. Visibility for some distance. No side entrances / junctions. No houses as industrial area and no trucks as it was a Sunday. Bizarre to have a long straight dry road at 80 but single lane windy road through the hills 110.
We all get our day(s) in court I suppose.
Maybe you shouldn't be driving if you are not fit to do so.

But it took getting caught and attending the course to make you reflect, or did you reflect on your driving before getting caught?

Maybe. Hindsight is 2020 though my friend.
You were doing 90mph in a 50 zone?!
Also
No priors bar a few km over and $100 fine, no demerits.
And
I have 2 demerits from Jan 18
Are demerits penalty points? Are you saying these have expired?
Racist.
I wasn’t asking for or expecting opinions but obvs this is stw and some people can’t help being dicks can they?
Do you see yourself as the pot or the kettle in all this? FFS, you were 40 km/h over the limit. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
But it took getting caught and attending the course to make you reflect, or did you reflect on your driving before getting caught?
Took a course fella and being honest it hasn't fixed me. But I'm not on here giving it the 'oh woe is me'.
So you got nothing from the awareness course? Just no points / fine?
Two dogs
Demerits stay on for three years. The last actual speeding ticket was a fine and no demerits. (or points) the two demerits I have expire eventually but this offense is beyond demerit points hence magistrates court.
I was doing 88mph in a 55mph zone or thereabouts.
Oh well batteries about to die so I'm going home. Trip the the beach dud wonders to clear my head. Thanks for some of the nicer comments and opinions.
Bless
What car where you driving?? I think we need to know all the relevant information so that we can assess your character correctly.....
Sleep deprivation can cause as much impairment as drink driving.
Bizarre to have a long straight dry road at 80 but single lane windy road through the hills 110
in Victoria and reason we are getting 80 (km/hr MAX not 80 plus a bit) zones more and more in odd places is bad bad driving. Easier to reduce speed limit than try and teach sensible/defensive driving...fed up with it as many rural roads are potentially safer for faster driving but not driving to the conditions/not reacting to poor driving by others/not taking care near junctions/blind bends/summits means lower limits/double lines all over the place ...drive like a dick..all the time and you get a road rule that tries to make it painful but also punishes those that have a way to rare in Aus' vague idea of driving to the conditions/defensively...as to overtaking lanes I usually drop 5-10km/hr below the limit to let the tailgaters for the last few KM's pass..can drive any road at the speed limit and get a bit unhappy that those that want to go faster don't just pass illegally rather than sit 2m behind then pass and then sit at limit after letting pass...must get in front
PS and I'd be very happy with much lower limits in urban areas ...and breathe
So you got nothing from the awareness course? Just no points / fine?
The course which costs the same as the fine, strangely enough, has certainly stopped me speeding on the brow of the hill where that crawler ends. In fairness I would say I speed less as it did point out the blindingly obvious fact that all the reasons I used to use for speeding are cr@p, so I'm just a bit late more often than I was.
As I always read 2k as "twin" it's a shame Aphex won't have a window to lick for a month. Plenty of time to play the digeridoo though.
Wish I was as righteous as you.
And I wish you wouldn’t drive a car when you don’t have any self control about how fast and/or dangerously you are driving, but not all wishes come true do they?
If your health and other situations mean you can’t drive safely they you shouldn’t be driving. Sorry if cold hard facts upset you.
Jeez. Speeding threads really do bring out the holier than thou crowd, don’t they? 😂🙄 those without sin, and all that jazz...
Keep smiling OP. I’m sure it’ll all work out okay in the end. The smart arse posters above are the thread equivalent of those annoying drivers that do 55 in a 60, and then 40 in a 30. 🙄
"speed limits are max speeds allowed, not targets to achieve" etc etc
those without sin, and all that jazz
It's not a matter of not sinning, it's not moaning about it when you get caught doing something stupid.
those without sin, and all that jazz
You called?
I’ve never taken a driving test, on account of fear of being on national news for driving whilst not having optimum diabetes control.
What was that about hindsight?
😇

To be fair he’s not really moaned about it.

Give it time, this crowd will coax it out of him
Ah! Classic making progress. Best thing in future is don’t speed. Will get where you’re going about thirty seconds later than planned, use less fuel and no risk of points, fine etc.
You probably shouldn't have been driving either, with poor blood sugar - my son's T1, probably didn't help clear thinking when you put that pedal down.
No1 - take a break and look after your bloods. My son's due to change his pump soon, only a year late and a year out of warrenty (NHS).
Glad I don’t live in Aus, Licence would be in tatters and I’d probably be wanted for arson of government property.😂
some people can’t help being dicks can they?
Just like people who drive 45km over the speed limit because they can't wait behind the car Infront for a few seconds longer?
The smart arse posters above are the thread equivalent of those annoying drivers that do 55 in a 60, and then 40 in a 30.
Naaaah mate, I just am able to read a number on a sign and keep my speed below (or mostly at) it. Lived for years in a village blighted by speeding drivers who think they know better up to the point some poor sod gets mangled by one, but even that doesn’t stop them.
I wasn’t asking for or expecting opinions but obvs this is stw and some people can’t help being dicks can they?
If you don't want opinions, don't post on a public forum. As for people being dicks...
Maybe write your thoughts in black and white using Notepad.exe next time.
God forbid anyone in this forum is less than perfect and has the audacity to admit it.

OP.
Not sure why you posted this to start with.
Some people seem to be confusing KPH with MPH and you seem to care what some dickheads* on an mtb forum think. Even though most posters don't even live in the same country as you.

Well said Squirrelking

Nice. I used to be perfect, but now I need reading glasses. I’ve never broken the speed limit though. I cycle everywhere at an average speed little more than 10 mph, but I’ve only ever been late for anything three times in my life. There is no need to speed.
I would genuinely love to know what someone would need to do whilst driving a car, to receive unanimous condemnation on here!?
It’s a pretty stern punishment to lose your car for 28 days, but considering your speed I think it’s fair.
I’ve not been in Australia (Perth) long, but generally most people seem to stick roughly to the limits. Doing 125kph would seem fast in a 110kph zone, but in an 80kph zone you’d be a rarity. You could probably have jumped enough cars by nudging up to 90-100kph and got where you want to go.
Hopefully you can de-stress and reflect. There’s not much justification for the amount of speed you were doing.
One of the things I hate about this place is how self righteous it is. So all of you being sanctimonious about this never drive above the speed limit yourself, right?
In the last 10 years, no, not on purpose, and only by a small amount in areas I don’t know with poor signage etc. Was caught speeding by 4mph (in a 30 zone) and did a course 11 years which was really interesting and taught me a lot. I also have a job where I have to drive so taught myself to chill out and stick within the rules so as to keep it. Now driving within the limits is a habit.
It’s not hard to keep to the speed limit (anyone who says it isn’t really shouldn’t have a licence) and you don’t really get anywhere any faster (gain a few seconds maybe) if there is traffic around (which is everywhere) so why bother? I’m quite happy trundling along at 30mph or whatever the speed limit might be with a big line of irate Audi bellend drivers behind.
Hmm let’s think of the typical responses I might get - 1. jealous of the Audi drivers? Errr no I’ve got a new car thanks and could afford one if I wanted but I prefer Swedish cars, duuuh 2. so you HAVE broken the speed limit - you aren’t perfect as you say you are - yeah never said I was but the times I have done it are by accident and by tiny amounts, I don’t feel like speed limits are optional like most drivers out there, just because you don’t get caught doesn’t mean it’s ok.
I wonder if it’s a coincidence that the people I know who are the calmest and safest drivers who stick to the limits are the people who have either enforced those limits and rules in their work (traffic police, motorbike and car officers) or who have had to deal with the aftermath of big accidents which have been the result of excess speed or other rule breaking (nurses, docs, fire service).
The most recent incident I was told about was from an ex-fireman friend who told me he still gets bad dreams about the mother and child he saw burning to death in a car while they screamed for help but they couldn’t get them out or extinguish the fire quick enough, and that was one of many he had to deal with. It’s enough to make you want to walk everywhere when you hear that but the least I can do is stick to the limits, be attentive, leave big gaps and if something does happen then the affect will be reduced or eliminated.
One of the things I hate about this place is how self righteous it is. So all of you being sanctimonious about this never drive above the speed limit yourself, right?
Out of interest, do you have a list of crimes it's acceptable to commit?
To be fair even with in speeding . It's pretty grim to try and defend being that far above the speedlimit. You don't do it by accident.
Your doing it intentially because you know where you have over taken is unsafe
Out of interest, do you have a list of crimes it’s acceptable to commit?
speeding obvs

Drinking sub optimal coffee and taking your time testing electric guitars are OK in my book.

I don't think anyone has defended the crime or said it's okay, OP included. It's just some of us take the view that being a sanctimonious twunt about it only gives folk ammo for the future. Too may people on here pretending to be whiter than white (awaits accusations of racism).
Hate the sin, not the sinner and all that.

Oh don't worry, I'm in no way edukated in those dark arts.
Was caught speeding by 4mph (in a 30 zone) a
Jesus, that's a fine margin. I know for a fact that my speedo reading is out by more than that.
Why havent you talked to a lawyer yet?
I know for a fact that my speedo reading is out by more than that.
Out of interest, how do you find that out? I was done for 57 in a 50, but in fairness I knew the needle was over 50. But most of my work travel is in 20/30/40 zones, so currently I just tend to drive like I have Ms Daisy with me.
Was caught speeding by 4mph
I'm guessing from the username he's not in the UK?
The UK is the odd one out when it comes to speeding tickets.
In the UK you get a ticket saying whatever the police measured your speed as, for the sake of example 38mph. If they had clocked you at 35mph you wouldn't get a ticket because that's less than the assumed margin for error (10% +3mph = 36mph), so you only ever get tickets that say above that. So because of that margin for error the ticket is effectively saying "you were doing 38mph, which is definitely above the limit".
In the rest of the world (or a lot of it anyway, there's probably others using the British system) if you were doing 38mph as in the above example you would get a ticket that says you were doing 32mph. Because once the accuracy has been deducted so the ticket is effectively saying "we can prove you were doing >32mph".
So in a lot of the world you could get a ticket for doing a seemingly harsh 31 in a 30 (but you were probably doing more like 36, and your speedo probably read 40+).
Out of interest, how do find that out? I was done for 57 in a 50, but in fairness I knew the needle was over 50. But most of my work travel is in 20/30/40 zones, so currently I just tend to drive like I have Ms Daisy with me.
Look at your satnav and speedo at the same time.
Car's have to read wthin 10% of the actual speed, and cannot under read. So you can't say "but my speedo said is was doing 50" because you'd be lying, when you're clocked at 57 it must have read between 57 and 63.
From a manufacturers perspective, they build the cars at the bottom of that 10% margin because:
a) it guarantees they're under the 'dont over read' hard limit
b) makes you feel manly and virile by flattering your speed.
Cheers @thisisnotaspoon that makes sense. I guess as I don't have a SatNav, I've never really thought, and yes my world is pretty small!! 😀 I've only been done once for a speeding offense,
so haven't really considered all the ins and outs till I did my course. I wondered when I've been in those average speed limit things on motorways why so many folk are going past me as I just tend to stick to what it says.
Lorries are IMO the worst for it, they know their limiter is set at 56mph, so they do 56mph down the middle lane of the current M4 roadworks tailgating and flashing at everything the way knowing that even with their foot to the floor they won't hit the 10%+3mph that triggers a ticket.
Everyone else sorts themselves with the inside lane doing an indicated ~49mph, and the outside doing about 10% faster, ~50 on their satnav.
Out of interest, how do you find that out?
If you Connect to the OBD port, you'll get a reading directly from the sensors, which is more accurate than the speedo. Then I did a couple of trips with the sat nav,/osmand
Then when a mate took his car to a rolling road for testing I asked them if they'd test it for few quid extra.
and cannot under read. S
They aren't supposed to but mine does. Bit of a shock to go from a car that over read by just about 10% to one that under read by nearly the same!
Oh don’t worry, I’m in no way edukated in those dark arts.
Oh the irony.

I predict more than a flaming pitch fork - more like they’ll pull your trousers down in public making use of the flaming hot pitch fork

Po po is what “cool” people call tbe police these days. Get with it grandad.
Eh? What? Speak up laddie... Ok! no need to shout, let me just turn my hearing aid up a bit..
Pass my stick.. I SAID PASS MY STICK!
Tut!!!
Young people these days, never had it so good.

Couple of additions. The 10% plus 3 (or 10% plus 2 in my mind) is not 'law', it seems to be generally accepted by police forces (sorry, po po fo fos) but not all forces adhere to it, and circumstances may vary.
https://www.roadlawbarristers.co.uk/speeding-what-is-the-10-plus-2-rule-and-what-does-it-mean/
Also if you don't have a sat nav (and phones do of course, my version of google maps has an indicated speed on it) then along motorways there are markers every 0.1 miles for identifying where breakdowns / accidents are. If you find a clear stretch on a quiet day and set cruise to a speedo reading of 60mph, then get a passenger to time you along 10 markers / 1 mile, the difference between your time and 60s is the discrepancy in your speedo - eg: 66s and you're speedo's reading over by about 10%*
* not exact but the maths isn't easy in your head while driving and it's close enough. eg: 66s for one mile would indicate 54.5mph
