Ever wondered what happens when you run £4000 worth of camera gear over with a van?

I have, so I decided* to find out.

Remarkably solid things externally at least! I guess the insides and the glass were truly borked?

Painful to watch I'll bet.

On the theme I forgot to strap my Singular Pegasus to the bikerack tonight. I think I got away with it though - 20 miles down a fast dual carriageway later.

Thankfully insured! Most lucky (or well-engineered) was the fact that the compact flash compartment stayed completely intact, so the day's shoot wasn't lost. phew.

It's well and truly broken otherwise, and makes a delightfully sandy rattling sound. Mmmm, expensive.

That sounds like a particularly niche trophy, bookend or other ornament in the making!

I keep meaning to make some kind of plinth/mount for my FM2n so that I can have that out on display. I haven't shot a frame of film in 4 years - it just seems a shame for it to sit in a darkened camera bag.

Was it insured separately or did you manage to claim off the van insurance for it?

Separate professional insurance for my camera gear.

Just the once Drac, I've only now had a spare second to take the pics!

I take it you've taken precautions for yourself...or do you balance on the step whilst the van swerves round the odd pothole?!

Err... let's just say the concept of "Health and Safety" doesn't really apply on a tiny backcountry road in Canada 😉

Pah! They don't make 'em like they used to...

This is Don McCullin's cam. Hit by a bullet; I understand it still worked afterwards!

Din't someone run SFBarnes' Nikon over, and it survived?

Think yourself lucky, Dan; had you run over an old Praktica or Zenit, your van would be knackered. 😮

Is this the same Dan Barham that drove into a underground garage with his bike on top of the car....

...twice

Maybe you should send your driving license back! 🙂

Long time, no see Dan - are you still living in that apartment with the great view of the NS mountain (when they're not in the clouds)?

Heh, a little accident prone aren't I. Still, at least I wasn't driving this time!

Yup, still in the same place. You?
