Despite being told by the doctors that I didn't have it, today I received a letter confirming that I do, indeed, have Whooping Cough.
Lots online saying what it is etc, but how long should I stay off the bike? Haven't ridden properly since before Easter, and the weather has been great.....
couple of years ago, but I knew i'd written a few bits about it so here are the links

Bottom line - I rode through not knowing any different, but while the coughing fits were bad it did add some challenges.
expect 3 months recovery and to still have the odd exercise induced fit
atter that ,my wife has been suffering since the middle of Feb.
Thanks for the replies, I didn't search far enough back. Looks like I've been quite 'lucky' with it as it doesn't sound as bad as for others. I was vaccinated, but it was clearly too long ago.
Cheers
David
You'd need to have known to search under my name and whooping cough on google; forum search capability is not always the best.
How long have you had it for then?
Noticed it starting with a tickly chest around Good Friday, cough started in earnest a couple of days later. Glad we didn't pop in to see various elderly family members around that time. First 2weeks were pretty horrible and thought I'd cracked a rib by the end of week 2 so went to doctors and was recommended a blood test for Whooping Cough and an X-ray. Our surgery only contact you if something shows up, so I rang back a week after the tests just to be sure and was told all was ok from tests, so I then assumed pulled muscles and nasty cold. Until I got the letter today.
I had it a couple of years ago it took about six weeks from diagnosis for me to get over it. The worst part I found for me was the vomiting after coughing and interfering with my asthma.
Depends on how bad you got it and and how quickly you are put on antibiotics to stop the damage to the villi in your bronchial tubes.
I had it a few years back in the middle of bloody summer and I was coughing really badly for a month and did no riding for 5 weeks, but then got back into it but took it easy.
It lurked around for another month or so.
My wife and daughter both got it and the 24 yr old daughter got a mild dose thanks to an earlier vaccination, and my wife got picked up with it very quickly, so was on antibiotics which stopped the damage early.
I'd recommend everyone get vaccinated against this as the vaccination you have as a child only lasts for 15 yrs [b]and it seems there are lots of folk in the community happy to think they have a mild cough but are actually spreading a potentially lethal diesese in the case of young kids
the antibiotics kills the bacteria and stops it being infectious
I had it. It's no fun. It's only contagious in the first few weeks. Antibiotics will see you right.
