Dani Klien who is Via Con Dios
Have a listen she does sultry blues to upbeat pop all with shed loads of style
I really like Amy Winehouse and Duffy. Definitely my faves at the moment. And I'm sure the rest of STW will be along to back me up 😯
Tanita Tikaram
Ahead of her time
soo many to choose from but lisa hanigan who is on tv right now on glasto sounds ok
DD have a listen to via con dios on you tube she puts your two fav's to shame
Tanita Tickeram yep well good I will have another listen to her first album tomorrow not heard it for years (10+)
Liz Green, Peggy Sue, early Cat Power & Liza Germano, oh and Mazzy Star.
Randy Crawford has the purest voice I have ever heard. Hearing her sing Rainy Night in Georgia made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Of more recent artists I'd say Corinne Bailey-Rae will stand the test of time if she can get over her husbands death and start making great music again.
I really like Alison Goldfrapp but it has to be Ella Fitzgerald, he voice is so gritty and full of emotion its sublime.
Sia or Goldfrapp
Lisa Hannigan's good, there are so many others it's difficult to know where to start. Dusty Springfield, Eddi Reader, Shawn Colvin, Sandy Denny, Tanya Donnely, Emmylou Harris, Gemma Hayes, Patty Griffin, Cerys Matthews, Camille, Bjork, Aimee Mann, Feist, Francoise Hardy, Alison Goldfrapp, Juanita Stein (Howling Bells), the Indigo Girls, Joni Mitchell, Judie Tzuke, Karine Polwart, Kate Bush, Kate Rusby, Kris Delmhorst, Linda Ronstadt, Maria McKee, Sam Phillips, Emily Hayes (Metric), Tori Amos, Laura Marling, Mechanical Bride, The Joy Formidable's singer, Toni Halliday (Curve), Susanna Hoffs/The Bangles...
There are others, but that's a pretty good list of female artists/singers who I love listening to. A few I've even had the great pleasure of meeting, too, like Maria McKee, Amee Mann, Eddi Reader, Gemma Hayes, Patty Griffin, Judie Tzuke and the lovely Kris Delmhorst.
So much wonderful music out there, so little time to listen to it all.
No love For Janis Joplin yet, for shame!
Beth Orton, Karen Carpenter, Anika Moa,
But Lately I'm all about Holly Smith. NZ Soul legend.

Tori Amos.
Mad as a box of frogs.
But what a voice.
Tracy Thorn, from Everything but The Girl..
Looks like Steven Hendry, but again, what a voice..
Ooh, and who can forget Shara Nelson on Massive Attacks' Unfinished Sympathy...
Regina Specktor.
bjork, siousxie sioux and Nina Simone.
Shame on the massive for not having Aretha Franklin right up there - so much voice, emotion and nuance. Also Glady Knight, if only for her rendition of Midnight Train to Georgia
Slightly more recently, Heather Small. Shame M-People only really had two popular albums for her to show her talent
Sandy Denny does the job for me every time. 8)
Beth Gibbons and Devlin Love
Regina Spektor seconded.
pj harvey
lovin ladyhawke atm.
Victoria from the Concretes.
Katy Tucker - just a local band singer but with a voice like honey & razor blades.

I'm with you mamadirt this is just great [url=
Oh, and the geezer on guitar ain't to shabby.
Most of the greats already mentioned. Mama Cass would get a vote from me. And fave contemporary singer probably Caitlin Cary - lovely country singer. Ooh! and before i forget, Margeret Fieldler(?) of the band Laika (who seem to have disappeared)....she's kept me warm on many a lonely night. Mmmmm.
Diana Ross... supreme !
Definately Bjork, she just has such a unique voice and expresses so much through her songs. Has worked with some great producers too. Massive fan of Liz Green too, why she doesn't have an album out I've no idea. Great live though. Guessing that Mr Nutt might have seen her at End Of The Road, don't think she's playing this year though 🙁
Shirley Manson for me. On so many levels.
Susan Tedeschi for me. plus her husband can play the guitar a bit!
www.susantedeschi.com
DEFO SINEAD OCONNER, LION AND THE COBRA WICKED ALBUM
BL**DY CAPS LOCK !!
soku - google here.

Some good names so far but none top the mighty Dido.
Brenda Holloway the true queen of Northern Soul takes me back to sweaty smelly nights at the Wigan Casino and standing on the platform of Wigan Wallgate station wired up to the eyeballs waiting for the first train of the morning back to Liverpool.

Bjork
I did like those covers Eva Cassidy did, esp. Danny Boy.
Karen Carpenter had a nice voice and also find Candice Night very tuneful too
That's a nice dress you're wearing Houns 😉
Bjork, Nina Simone, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Amy Winehouse, Norah Jones, Alice Russell and Lady Sov. It's not the definitive list though.
Alela Diane, To Be Still is by far the best album I've heard this year....
Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield and ABBA.
Why has no one said Lily Allen?
Only kidding. Mine would be Kate Bush
Beth Orton, Beth Gibbons, Joni Mitchel, Janis Joplin, Jacqui McShee, Lily Allen, Bjork
irma thomas, etta james and alison krauss for me
Judie Tzuke.
Have all her albums and saw her in concert at least 4 times, back in the day.

SSP
Bobbie Gentry
Vicki Anderson
Florence Foster Jenkins
Lady Ga ga after a good gig at Glasto!!
bandi carlile, from a jools show last year, same show lykke li,both can sing and not bad looking
Lady Gaga's got a great voice, Paparazzi really shows it off well, real character and flavour to her vocals (decent range too). But I find her stage show/persona a total turn-off, can't be bothered with bands who spend more time thinking about how they look than how they sound.
Shireen Laine from the Slingbacks/ now the Lumiere Brothers is probably my favourite female vocalist, she's just got such an expressive, varied, characterful voice. Very distinctive... Like a punk rock edith piaff. It does help that I used to fancy her rotten when I was about 15.
I've just been watching Natasha Khan at Glasto - impressive
stop calling it Glasto.. guardian readers pah!
Joni Mitchell and Zoe Johnston. And of course re. Mariah Carey I can only say:
OMG she is like so awseme! my fav song is HERO we sing it at school ahhhhhhhh she is the best female singer out of this list with whitany ahhhhhhhh bye xxx(:
going back about 14 years now.. sonya vallet. she sang Big city lover for dj Krush.shara nelson with massive attack and on her tod stands out as well.
Dusty and Kate B
susan vega
Woohoo, The Slingbacks get a mention. If we're going into obscure bands with female vocalists, there's Drugstore, Linoleum and The Julie Dolphin. Oh, and the Innocence Mission, and The Violet Hour. I can't remember the singers names, but I love all of those bands.
Shana Halligan from the trip-hop group [url=
Hmmm tough one.
Sharon Den Adel (Within Temptation)
Karen Orzolek (Yeah Yeah Yeahs)
SArah Brightman
Christina Aguilera Back to Basics Album
Hhmm!
I think it must be my age?
