Perhaps I have too high expectations but....in an ideal world I'd like to feel 100% fantastic/top of my game/invincible each and every day.

Closer to 50 than 40 so perhaps I just need to accept that this is not realistic.

So....recognising that some of you will, how many folks feel on top of the world every day?

I just feel fine and content all the time. As I say to my wife - "it could be worse you know!"
No point being high as a kite because you can't keep it up forever 🙂

No, not me and I wouldn't want to. Like everything in life you have to endure a bit of the bad to truly appreciate the good.

Nope I don't. Somedays are better than others. I quite like that actually. I seem to push myself hard for a period of time ( in training now so 5 weeks in ) and I'm sitting on the sofa with a bad back because I over did it. But it's times like this that I take the good with the bad, at least I've managed to get out 95% of that time (5wks) and now.. Well there's sod all I can do about it, so im playing with my camera and just finished watching the Strade Blanc, tomorrow is Paris - Nice.
Rest is a good thing, switching brain off another good thing. I'll be back out next week hacking the trails when my legs will feels fresh and the back as come out of spasm,
MrsBouy is off the see some friends tonight so ill be on my own for a couple of nights..

I wonder what I can get up to...

Hmmmm

PeterPoddys wife hit the nail on the head.

In the last 2 weeks my aunts been diagnosed terminally ill, a 50 year old guy in our road club dropped dead after a 70 mile ride and on Thursday my wifes friend was told she needs a double mastectomy.

Even when I'm feeling 10% that's still 110% better than some.

My glass is always half full.

I can't remember the last time I was above 30%, may be August last year. Was on holiday.

Fantastic, as in totally healthy and well? No, that's unrealistic and doomed to failure. But - given some of the things I've seen on here recently (bruders, the suicide thread, etc.), and seeing the way a friend is dealing with her incurable brain tumour diagnosis, I've made a conscious decision that I will not be getting mardy about stuff that is by comparison insignificant. So - 100% well; no, I've had a shitey cold and now I'm coughing like a consumption victim, but it'll pass, and when it does I'll feel even better than I do now. What's not good about that?

I learn very little while surfing the crest of life's wave.

I learn more from the troughs.

ecstasy and cocaine

Wot no hookers? Is that not the standard response?

Seriously though, I'm always tired. A combination of a 3 year old child and hypothyroidism doesn't help but riding me bike is always a tonic.

boxfish - is your hypothyroidism under control? Do you find you have good days and bad days?

cg - yeah, pretty much. It took 18 months to find a dose of Levothyrooxine where my TSH levels are stable and not pinging around all over the place. Cycling-wise, my fitness and stamina are back where they were before I started feeling crap. Losing 10kg last year certainly helped my well being.

Edit: making sure I take my meds well before breakfast makes a difference too, I believe

You're very lucky that it's only taken 18 months but presumably you were switching between hypo and hyper?

Excellent that you're feeling so good! Yes meds earlier the better works for many and leaving an hour before drinking coffee or tea should be done apparently.

tbh I think you're being unrealistic here.
I got signed off with stress from work a few years ago, in part because work was crap, but also I wanted the same buzz from work that I get from a great day's biking, or at the end of a flowy bit of singletrack... which was clearly never going to happen! Kind of brought it on myself really...

I remember a few years ago (mid-noughties at the height of Ecstacy craze) hearing a study into depression around the impact of people spending their weekend having an amazing time clubbing and doped up and not being able to cope with the relative 'flatness' of normal life...

If you're having difficulty managing then Moodscope is a great tool for tracking your ups and downs and spotting the contributing effects. For me, exercise is a great upper, lack of sleep (especially when combined with alcohol) sends me crashing...

Another thyroid sufferer here, but I've been like this for 30 years. I have high and low weeks, on about a 6week cycle and feel ok most of the time but it does vary. I'm just coming off an extended high and I can feel things getting more sluggish by the day.....but like Arnie "I'll be back"

Yes. It seems I am lucky compared to many. The whole thing encouraged me to take stock and make some changes to my lifestyle. I certainly enjoy treats more these days and I'm a lot more aware of what I'm eating/drinking.

I try and be energetic, cheerful and optimistic but life does get to you at times and I find myself struggling.

I worry i can be a bit pessimistic - but then felt slightly buoyed hearing about this article

NOw i can be optimistically pessimistic 🙂

But that's life isn't it?
Nobody can expect to be100% happy/healthy 100% of the time....

The vast majority of people I see with 'depression', really just have a massive gap between 'what is expected' and 'what is realistically acheivable'..... To put it better, it seems it's not 'what you have' in life that makes you happy, but 'being happy with what you've got'.......

The same can go for pain and aches - I can't name a day I haven't been completely pain free - does it define me? No way - that's when problems start....!!

I really wish I had an under or over active thyroid problem. I had a blood test for it (and a lot of things in between} and I'm now diagnosed with bipolar.
Tears streaming down my face in the car park of the Trafford Centre this afternoon and that look of dread on my wife's and daughter's faces.
Please excuse me but I ******* hate this life. I'm now in the spare bedroom with only my phone for company.
Sorry. No idea why I'm typing this bollocks. The internet is not good for me.
ps. if you bought an item from me from these classifieds the other day, don't worry, they went in the post yesterday.

monksie - I remember you doing that brilliant cycle ride covering some massive distance. That really was an achievement and there was loads of support for you on here. Wasn't there STW'ers meeting up with you and joining you for a bit?

That support is still here, please don't suffer in silence. You mustn't be hard on yourself, negativity is not good.

Take it easy.
