Im not on mumsnet so i thought id ask here. I need a new washing machine. Can anybody recommend a company that can supply one as well as install it and remove the old one for a reaonable cost? Im more interested in the cost of the supply, install and disposal rather than the cost of the machine.

Thanks

I was tempted to say the Candyman can, but AO might be better.

Most places that sell them do all of that for a charge. Most of the charge is removal of old one and typically only around £30 from memory.

Most large electrical appliance retailers will do this.

Assuming that there is an existing machine that's been plumbed in it's a 5 minute job that pretty much anyone can do  to to disconnect the old one and reconnect the new one to the existing plumbing,

I've had both Currys and ao.com take away old machines for disposal.

Local Euronics retailer? Don’t think delivery/installation + removal of old one cost any extra when I got one a while back. Plus you are supporting a local business.

Is there something wrong with the old one? Put it on Facebook or Freecycle. Someone will take it. Install is very easy. About as hard as connecting a hose pipe. Really no need to pay extra for either

John Lewis do this to (at least for some models), costs a bit extra but well worth it IME, £25 connection, £20 removal

AO have been great for washing machine, dishwasher and cooker. Selectable delivery slots and good communication on the day of delivery.
Tried local shop who all did this as well, but difference in same product was over £100.

"a 5 minute job that pretty much anyone can do ... both Currys and ao.com"

Ours was installed by Currys. The muppet plumbed it into the hot water not the cold.

As above, 10 minute diy job, just remember to take the transport locks out.

Get new one out of packageing.

Slide old one out, turn off water, disconnect and drop end into a bucket.

New rubber washer, conect new one, slide it in, give it a wiggle and adjust feet as nesecary.

Phone helpline because it's not working.

Feel stupid when the first question they ask you is  "Is it plugged in?"  😉

Can be a bit trickier if it's an integrated appliance. John Lewis managed to make a right dogs dinner of installing ours and had to come back and redo it (that time he left his mobile phone in there............)

Easy DIY, but if you aren't able to dispose of it easily, worth paying.

Just leave the old one on the street outside your house (or a neighbours).

Scrap men love washing machines, the drum is made from a really high grade stainless steel.

It's probably worth about £8 in scrap. It'll be gone inside an hour.

Or rip it apart and make a novelty patio heater from the drum.

Novelty patio heater you say?

Someone delivered this to our office the other day. It’s made from a Calor gas bottle....

Easy DIY

10 minute diy job

Don't listen to people who clearly have limited experience of fitting washing machines. If it is an integrated appliance it is not such an easy DIY job. You will most likely need to fill the old hinge holes in the door, then drill new holes in the correct place with a 35mm Forstner drill bit (you do have one don't you) and be careful you don't drill all the way through. You'll need some PTFE sliders to get the new machine in and possibly some sheet material as packing so that it is snug under the worktop, as well as being level.

See https://ask-a-saint.silversaints.com/posts/2283232-fit-an-integrated-washing-machine for tips

As above AO, John Lewis, even Currys.

Bosch were superb when our over a year out of warranty dryer destroyed itself. Gave us a massive (£600) discount off a new one on the condition that they install it and the old was was taken away by them for assured destruction.

Also depends on where and how the feed and waste pipes are situated, we recently self-installed and had several snags due to the way the old one had been bodged.

A supplier doing fitting would have walked away from it I'm sure.

But if you know yours is "normal", crack on obvs.

I always use John Lewis for white goods. Their own label is just a discounted branded appliance. I pay online and they deliver, install and take away to a property in UK.

Brilliant service when I was waiting once, appliances have been good too,but check the reviews some are better than others.

Ironically i actually had to do ours between typing that and today.

I stand by my previous comment althoigh i'd change it to 10 minutes + time taken looking for your missing 10mm socket to remove the transport bolts.

When we got our recent washing machine we used John Lewis cost a bit more but had a 2 hour delivery window rather than sometime that day like others. I fitted it and removed the other as I am a domestic goddess!!!
