Off to Mallorca in the next couple of weeks. Teenage kids need negative PCR test results before we go.
Scotland based, so happy to travel to Edinburgh / Glasgow for a quick turn around or are the mail order versions quick enough?
TIA
No idea. But for reference, we had to do a (mail order) PCR on return from Spain. I posted it off at 11 o'clock Monday and received the results at 8.30 this morning.
I had to book one on arrival in the UK a few weeks ago. All the ones for 20 quid were sold out. I found one for 60 from a company called TestnGo. The test arrived on time and had the results two days later. The girl at the rental car place at the airport told me a lot of people who booked the cheap test never got them. A colleague also returned to the UK last week and never received the 90 quid test he ordered! And that is from the government website!😤
Thanks both - I'm going to look at Boots' offerings too.
Coronomics is who we used, it worked fine.
With the timing of the swab needing to be within 72 hours of arrival in Spain (i.e. arriving at the immigration desk) you need to weigh up the risks of a postal swab versus the cost and hassle of an in person test.
Randox with drop box will 'guarantee' the result by midnight the day after your drop box drop off and are most economical that I have seen with a decent turnaround time (£43), but their system had a bit of a breakdown a few months ago. They are probably ok now, but as with everything have a look at recent reviews. You need to look at the 'closing time' of the drop box you aim to use (all in the central belt in Scotland) to determine when to take the sample.
Chronomics are £69 including postage, results are guaranteed 24-36 hours after arrival at the lab, so timing is a bit tighter (you take the sample a few hours after taking it, drop in priority post box and it should get to the lab the next day, and 36 hours after that is getting close to your departure).
In person, ExpressTest operate drive in and walk in sites, in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. Obviously there is the fuss of getting there and it's £80 but it's a guaranteed result by 10 pm the next day.
There will be other in person tests like Boots, but just read the small print of when the results are due (24 hours from arrival at lab - how long does it take to get to the lab?)
