I am attending a funeral on Thursday and need a white a shirt. However most shirts seem to be quite see through. Is this normal? I don't wear a suit etc for work, so shirt shopping isn't up there on my priorities list.

Have a look see if you can get a dress Oxford or twill shirt. Maybe even a herringbone fabric from somewhere like TM Lewin or Charles Tyrwhitt.

Wear a white vest or T shirt underneath. It will probably be pretty cold, if you are standing around at a funeral.

Charles Trywhitt make a nice thickish twill shirt.

Spend more than a fiver and get a decent cotton one?

Although to be fair all mine were made-to-fit in the Far East when out on various business trips, so proper cotton, made well.

aye look out for a twill one or similar.

Thomas Pink do a nice thick twill but a lot cheaper at Charles Tynwhitt.

I got a nice casual white Oxford shirt at Fat Face in the summer, thick but surprisingly cool enough to wear in Italy and quite a good buy.
